Does this mean what I think it means?
That Kerry is going to run for reelection instead of president? He is one of the 12 Dems whose term is up in 2008. And Schumer says that Harkin is the only one who hasn't made up his mind yet.

Schumer has also begun to assemble candidates for the 33 Senate seats that will be contested in 2008. It's seen as a year that favors Democrats, with 12 Democratic incumbents up for reelection compared with 21 Republicans.

His first goal is ensuring that no Democrat retires.

"We have now gotten 11 of the 12 Democrats to commit to running again. Tom Harkin is still making up his mind," Schumer said, going on to lavish praise on the 67-year-old Democrat. "He's a great senator. He does more in a couple of years than many senators have done in a lifetime."

1.  Schumer is lying. Biden is running for president. I doubt he has committed

and he is part of the 11 who supposedly have committed. Given that, I would not make any conclusion concerning Kerry. My bet is that they committed to run if they do not run for president.

But this will be another piece interpreted as Kerry not running, which is one other reason he should come out and say if he is seriously thinking about running.

7. I agree with you. If He is going to run, he should just do it soon.
All this sh*t makes people think he has made his decision already. All the pieces that talk about him mulling it over are not much better. It makes it look like he can't make up his mind.
All indications were before the joke, that he was doing this. Now all of a sudden things have changed? The stupid joke made a difference.

If he does decide not to run, Rove will have won and Kerry will be forever remembered as losing out to that joke.

Either he is going to run or he isn't. He has to have his mind made up by now.

10. I may be alone on this,
but I'm not sure I agree that he needs to be in such a tearing hurry. It's not like he's doing a public Hamlet act - he's just being quiet and doing his job.

I find that utterly refreshing at this moment in time.

12. In a way,
but once you've announced everything you try to do is tainted by the presidential race. It shouldn't be that way, but it is. If everyone running were like JK, the world would be a much more civilized place, but they are not like him. Some are extremely not like him. If you know what I mean. Politics uber alles.

4. Well, one of the recent stories said
that Sen. Kerry might want to run for both offices. This is not possible under current Mass law. However, the law in Mass governing succession of Senators was changed in 2004 to prevent a Repub Gov from appointing a Repub to a Dem seat in the Senate. It is not impossible to think of allies in the State House changing the law again. I don't advise it, but it is higly possible.

5. Isn't the NY Daily News the one that leans RW? The ones that plastered
Surrender Monkey's on the front page.
If this is the paper, I wouldn't trust it as a reliable source.

15. The NY Post is more RW, but the NY Daily News
was Archie Bunker's newpaper. That's the best way I can think to describe it - it does lean right and likely correctly places Kerry in the liberal/Center wing.
