Max Baucus has not changed at all
If I may draw your attention to a hearing from 2007. I did this writeup about shenanigans going on around Medicare and the Advantage program.

We are talking about trillions of dollars. Trillions. That is the ultimate "not nuthin." And Baucus was not to be trusted then and is not to be trusted now. We knew this. It's how he operates.

1. I remember that

until then, my only image of Baucus had been the guy, whose hat Kerry playfully moved at the awful bush inauguration.

The thing that is really disgusting here is that he arbitrarily created a "special" committee and excluded even the chair of the Health sub-committee - and all the stronger public option supporters. (unless Bingaman is stronger than I have seen him to be.)

2. You know Tay, I said something positive about what is now being proposed in another post, but

I want to take it back now. I have done some reading on what is now being proposed and I have to ask what part of this plan helps the uninsured get quality affordable coverage and what of it is left that contains some of the original good goals that were pure Democratic?
It seems to many influential people were concerned about how health care changes would affect them and their needs were placed above those of the poor and middle class. Maybe I am going to far, but I hope Obama veto's what is being proposed now unless there is immediate relief for the uninsured and from the high costs associated with care. We are suppose to settle for co-ops as competition against other higher prices insurers. This seems like a receipt for substandard care-but at a low cost.
