New MA Poll: JK Most Popular Senator, More Popular than Brown
Edited on Tue Oct-04-11 09:59 PM by ObamaKerryDem
http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/main/2011/10/massachusetts-miscellany.html

And this after most MA media fawned over Brown almost constantly until fairly recently (not to mention the National press!) and generally gave JK the cold shoulder.Who's 'next'now,Ayala Brown? Haha! :)

I know JK's next race is farther down the line but this gives me hope that MA voters are at least generally 'getting it' and perhaps even having some buyer's remorse about Senator Centerfold!

This may be somewhat anecdotal but encouraging nevertheless I think! :)

1. Nice, but the slip in his numbers is pretty big
I wonder if it is just the general negativity everywhere for everyone. It might also be partly all the attacks on all the super committee people and the fact that he has taken the adult role of speaking unpleasant truths rather than offering simplistic, unrealistic solutions. I am not surprised that Patrick has a higher approval. Congress' approval is very very low and it can't help but transfer to the Senators.

I like that they actually did the preference question - although with Kerry being more popular and Brown underwater while Kerry is double digits positive on the net result there is no need for it.

4. True. Members of the SC are feeling a lot of heat from the base..
..especially it seems (See the previous threads about JK's statements during this period being taken out of context in the General Forum, for example). But to see him up in popularity above Brown and the press acknowledging it at least on this level especially..is refreshing even if it's a bit early. It's really encouraging especially that Brown is slipping as he is of course a candidate right now. Even after the media's constant plugging and subsequent apologizing for him. So validating if anecdotal! :)

6. I agree the BIG story in this and the last 3 or so polls, is Brown's numbers catering
It does not mean he can't win, but it does mean that he has to really do things well or hope that the Democrat really slips on something.

What I wonder if the negative side of Brown's personality will show itself more. At the risk of saying things I can't prove, he seems like he is someone who needs a lot of praise and does not deal well with criticism. I think he also looks to external approval to know he is doing well rather than having an internal sense that what he is doing is good.

2. Brown stopped being the most popular MA person a while ago.
However, two remarks. First, these polls are often useless to predict the future (see the comment on Patrick's numbers in early 2010). I know I kept confidence in him because I knew the man was very empathetic and when he talked to others, he really seemed to care about the issue. But the media continued to insist that he would lose until the end.

I also think there are problems with this particular poll as it was taken during Warren's launch and it probably pretty much impacted everybody's numbers. I suspect the Herald numbers are closer to reality. I remembered.

Though I am frankly stubbornly reluctant to believe anything the Herald says lol :) But fwiw.

5. Brown has Joe Kennedy and Deval Patrick more popular than Brown.
(and Coakley very popular).

Yes, I dont trust the Herald either, but the results seemed more realistic than PPP compared to what I see here. Not sure whom they polled.

7. After today, there will likely be NO contest
between one Senator, who has been called a gentleman and noted for his good manners and the jerk that Scott Brown allowed people to publicly see he is, the choice will be obvious to all. http://www.boston.com/Boston/metrodesk/2011/10/scott-brown-takes-poke-elizabeth-warren-appearance-boston-radio-show/s745o8D3uv5kJ3Uvfk98qI/index.html I'm just glad the papers had to admit it before this point.

Interesting that he goes into his poor, poor little Scotty routine. In the first place, he got scholarships to go to College. He posed AFTER college and then went to Law School. As a college grad, in a good economy, he had ways to go to law school - including getting a job, getting grants or loans. I suspect he wanted the good life doing so bought him - going to studio 45, having money and marrying a model. It worked for him, but it is part of his past - and in 2010, MA showed they would not hold it against him.

8. He is a sexist and a moron.
His comments about Warren are in line with his comments about his daughters in his acceptance speech and him being a strong supporter of Keating's opponent.

But good to see that most in the media agree with this.

Which is even better is that he could have an argument that Warren's comment was useless banter (and I thought it was a planted question posed by the GOPer in the panel), but with his comments and his messing up where Warren went to college (not Harvard contrarily to what he implies), there is no photo. Once again (not the first time), he showed his true nature.

10. He also said of Cheryl Jacques in an earlier race that she was not normal.
(as she is a lesbian). A total jerk.

But what I do not even get is that it could at least be stupid but true, but looking how Warren looks nowadays, I would imagine she was a looker at 20. So, it does not even make sense.

11. I never heard of him saying that Jacques was "not normal"
That is extremely insensitive as well as completely disgusting. I agree with you are Warren, but the fact is most women and most men, no matter how attractive, do not consider posing in the nude. I would not go so far as to say it is not "normal", but it is pretty unusual.

I was surprised that Glen Johnson really took a pretty strong voice against Brown's victim act. http://www.boston.com/Boston/politicalintelligence/2011/10/scott-brown-elizabeth-warren-cosmo-quips-overshadow-more-telling-comments-after/MnQwj9E6OGunQQNX3hHabK/index.html Maybe his crush is waning.

While all of those comments about the senator’s life may be true, the suggestions he makes about Warren - and the patina he puts on his own story - belie reality.

That sounds like a shot over the bow.

(I think he was both too whiny and he was dishonest - the modeling was to pay for law school - he was already a Tufts graduate.

12. Here - he was referring of the fact they had children
http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1954918,00.html

Is against gay marriage but favors civil unions. In 2001, Brown called then state Senator Cheryl Jacques' decision to have children with her female partner as "not normal" and referred to her parenting as "alleged family responsibilities." He later apologized.

13. That is pathetic
Whether he agreed she should have been allowed to adopt (or have) children, having them meant she had real family responsibilities. It would be strange to hear an Indiana legislator say this, but it seems utterly clueless for a MA legislator.

By the way, someone at Tufts University responded with great humor - http://www.wickedlocal.com/northofboston/columnists/x1581991162/Peter-Chianca-Taking-lumps-at-Tufts-with-Scott-Brown#axzz1aOXMYRIw
