Something totally not related to photography,
Edited on Fri Feb-11-11 11:38 PM by Blue_In_AK
but I'm going to tell you guys about it anyway because you're my friends and you might find this useful.

Those of you who read Kristina's (Blue_in_CA's) blog know that she and Riaz have started a little company called "Bula Ball," based on the program that Riaz has designed to combat chronic muscle pain. During his years as a professional rugby player, he sustained quite a few serious injuries and in 2009, just before Aiman was born, he underwent back surgery. During his recovery, he became very familiar with techniques of myofascial release and developed an exercise program that miraculously sped up his healing.

For the past year and a half or so they've been working on bringing the business on line and finally launched last month. When we were in Costa Rica, we learned more about the "Bula ball system" and promised Riaz that we would take his 90-day challenge. I said at the end of 90 days, if I noticed any great improvement in how I felt, I'd tell all my friends but not until I could vouch for its effectiveness myself.

So now, only 10 days in, I'm going to vouch for its effectiveness. After a week of the shoulder and neck exercises and two days of the leg and lower back exercises, both Jim and I notice increased range of motion, improved posture, no more popping and clicking in the shoulders, and my arthritic knee is much better. The four instructional DVDs provided with the balls are really helpful (and EASY).

So if you haven't had a chance to check out the link to Bula Balls, here it is http://www.bulaball.com/ and you can read Kristina's testimony about Riaz's improved condition at her blog here: http://alaskatoaustralia.wordpress.com/2010/12/13/bula-bula/

Even though, of course, I want the kids to be successful with their enterprise, I honestly wouldn't be pushing this here if it didn't work. I was a bit of a skeptic, but I can't deny how much better I feel.

1. WOW - I will look into it - but first let me tell you IMO
we are family here. And you can tell me anything you think is this important to you.
FWIW
(I'm learning the abbreviations these days)

2. You should hear Riaz testify.

:) It's obviously worked wonders for him. I remember how uncomfortable he was after his surgery when I was down in LA for Aiman's birth. Now he's surfing, playing full-contact rugby, chopping down banana trees. He really feels great, and he hasn't done any kind of hard-core exercise regimen at all ... just rolling around on the balls while he's watching TV.

It feels fabulous, like having your own personal masseuse on hand 24/7. If you get a little tension spot, you can just roll it out. I can see where they could have a great market for this product in today's age of inflated health-care costs. Rather than spending thousands of dollars with a physical therapist or chiropractor, you can spend $129 on the balls and DVDs and never have to pay a health care professional to treat chronic pain again.

He was originally marketing mostly to athletes for quick recovery after injuries, but we wanted to see how it works on older folks -- and so far, so good. I like it because it's really low impact and you can target your specific area of tension and not hurt yourself doing it. Plus, you can do it while watching TV.

I sound like an infomercial, huh?

3. I like that you're excited, and elaborating. In the meantime I have looked
and seen his little intro and stay intrigued.
I can really relate to the part about it working well on older folks, and many of those I hang out with will be able to as well.

4. Any time that pain can be relieved
with means other than medication is certainly a plus. I've bookmarked the link and will read about it more closely. And of course I'll share it with my friends.

Thanks for this post. Very informative.

5. this looks like a great program
I have read that people use tennis balls against a wall for back pain or fibromyalgia, and this looks so much easier and better.

I wish them great success. If I have occasion to recommend something like this, I certainly will.

You might consider putting it in DU Marketplace too.

6. Sounds great, Blue, both the program and your family.
Thanks for sharing; I'll do the same.

Tell a bit about your arthritic knee, please, as my friend has one of those too.

:hi:

11. The knee started giving me trouble last March
when we were out in Nome. I thought maybe I had hyperextended on the elliptical machine or something and waited for the pain to go away. When it didn't, I went to a bone man who diagnosed the osteoarthritis, gave me a shot of cortisone to bring down the swelling and sent me to physical therapy for a month, three times a week. At the end of that time (August), he shot some Synvisc under the kneecap and told me it would last probably six months and then I would most likely want to come back for another shot.

The shot did help remarkably, and in the meantime I started working out with the balls. It is now February when I was supposed to return to the doctor, but at this time I don't feel like I need it. I'm not going to give total credit to Bula Balls just yet, since it's been JUST six months, but I'm going to continue the exercises and see if I can maintain this level of comfort. I still get a twinge now and then, usually when walking down stairs, but nothing like it was -- when it was very painful to even push my foot down into my shoe.

14. The first doctor I went to was talking about surgery, too,
but thankfully he wasn't a "preferred provider," and I went to someone else who was who treats much more conservatively. I wasn't really ready to get cut into -- getting the shots was bad enough. :)

7. I went to the site but got this popup window from AVG...
Edited on Sat Feb-12-11 01:24 PM by ljm2002
You might want to let them know, it looks like there is an issue with a javascript on the site.

The message says:

Threat was blocked!
File name: www.bulaball.com/wp-content/themes/whiteboard880/js/jsquery.anythingslider.js
Threat name: Exploit Link to Exploit Site (type 1317)

(on edit)

Removed the alarming screenshot, PM me if you want to see it and I'll send it.

It looks like they used a WordPress theme, whiteboard880, that has the problematic script. Maybe they should change themes? My intent is *not* to throw cold water on your post, I went there out of interest but thought I should let people know of the potential issue.

8. Thank you.
Yes, I had that issue, too, and like you I just worked through it. I let Kristina know and she was going to talk to the web host about it. I don't know "computer talk," so your analysis in the last paragraph will be very informative for them.

Thanks for the input.

Maybe post a comment on his blog entries at the site after you get going. Riax is really trying to keep in touch with people and help them if they run into any special concerns.
