Poll question: Most corrupt state in the nation?

A discussion on the soon-to-be-authored-by-another Cannonfire made me want to transfer it to this site.

What, in your estimation, is the most corrupt state in America? Use your own criteria. I just tossed out what I see as the "biggies" in this poll, feel free to throw out your own, though please post your rationale.

in America. It's hard to say which state comes out on top.

All you have to do is really look at local and state politics. Many people have the illusion that things are run well in their state...until they get their eyes opened one way or the other. In every state
there is widespread corruption. If you don't believe it, you need to take a deeper look.

12. Where's GA on the list or AL? Both have elections determined by machine.

GA is all Diebold all the time, no audit, no verification, and election after election with suspicious results. AL has given all counting over to the machines too I believe so there's no chance of democracy there for many years into the future I would imagine.

When the elections are pre-determined, corruption follows as the night the day. This is what gave us the corruption we have had in Washington. And the only reason we got the Democratic surge in 06 was that the landslide was so great the machines weren't tuned high enough to steal it except in a handful of cases (FL-13 e.g.).

15. E-voting makes poll tax and Jim crow laws unnecessary

I lived there for a few years during the first gulf war and was speaking out about it just in general conversation and was approached and told that if i continued not "Supporting the Troops" bad things would happen.
I have no fondness for that state where the skies are so blue and some of the powerful ones are rotten to the core.

my office received a call today from Governor Strickland's office, and I cheered..I could NOT help it...the woman I spoke with said it has been like that since they took office...everywhere she has called people like me have said "Yay, Governor Strickland".

She can hardly get her calls made, but she is delighted and passing ALL of the responses on.

FLA can win the big game (as it should be if you play damn zone defense an entire football game), but ....

I've lived here my whole life and even i can't believe some of the stuff that goes on. We've had both dems and repukes go to jail over this stuff. And it's been going on since the 19th century.

Okay -
So what does this say about me? Almost my entire family was born in Ohio (Cleveland and Cincinnati) but for most of my life I have lived in Maryland, both of which are on the list. I live in DC metro area but have a sister in Manassas, Va so go to Virginia alot. How could this state not make the list? The state capital Richmond, heavily Republican, tries to pretend like Northern Virginia doesn't exist since its heavily Democratic. N. Va has some of the worst roads/traffic congestion I have ever seen and yet the state government doesn't seem to care about trying to fix it. They are too busy funneling money to their "struggling" tobacco farmers and the gun lobby.

A compelling post on Cannonfire explained that the author felt Maryland was the most corrupt state because citizens there no longer objected to the corruption, and treated it as almost normal.

30. It's a toss-up..Texas or Florida. I voted Florida just because they're so blatant with

the corruption and the 2000 election theft, but Texas is a close second and my state, Illinois, isn't far behind.:)
