1. They would have probably chosen something scentless
but detectable with the proper gear.

8. yeah, or that maple syrup smell instead of something scary. that's
why I think it was maybe natural outgassing of the methane trapped in the hudson submarine canyon that sits outside of NY harbor. Maybe as part of a pre-earthquake thing, like happens in CA. Lots of faults in NYC, including in the area that smelled it the most!

3. In the same way that DU could really be an elaborate set in which you and I
are the only participants. I play all other characters, while an amused world watches how you will respond.

Everything is possible, but without some evidence to suggest extreme conclusions, there's no reason to jump to them.

5. OK, cover me in tinfoil, but EVERYONE in L.A. is sick ...
It's weird -- not flu technically but EVERYBODY I know is walking around with a bug that's half allergy/cold, half headache/fever/fatigue. A friend of mine threw out the idea of chem trails and I thought he was nuts two weeks ago, but now I'm starting to think he might not be too far off the mark, as seemingly everybody has this thing.

9. But this happened before the recent Santa Anas ...
I was off for a week between Christmas and New Year's and thought it was just me who was sick but everyone I know started coming down with this thing and when I came back to work on Jan. 2, I found most of my office was sick too. I've lived here for over 20 years and I don't think I've ever heard so much coughing, both at home and at work. Just weird ...

11. That makes sense -- I got sick during the cold spell
lows in the (ha!) 30s-40s and I woke up with a cough.

the place that day. Or at least in a lot of countries and in cities in the US. I am hoping it is not methane starting to bubble up in a lot of places and going into the atmosphere. Also we are not taking the greatest care of our infrastructure.

Federal oversight would target corroded Louisiana pipelines
by Matthew Penix

It’s been deadly, expensive and disruptive to the nation’s natural gas supply. But for decades, corrosion in low-pressure natural gas pipelines has been exempt from federal oversight. Until now.

The Pipeline Safety Foundation in Washington, D.C., estimates roughly 50 percent, or 1.25 million miles of the nation’s 2.5 million miles of pipes, are past their 40-year lifespan. Their age became evident during the 1990s when 3,917 liquid fuel spills and natural gas leaks occurred, roughly one a day, according the foundation.

The incidents, most involving natural gas lines, resulted in 201 deaths, 2,826 injuries and $778 million in property damage, the foundation estimates.

Until now.

President Bush recently signed into law legislation to prevent runaway corrosion and lacksadasical maintenance from plaguing low-pressure oil and gas pipelines throughout the United States linked to more than 200 deaths from explosions and ruptures.

January 8, 2007 -- The environmental "surge" you're not hearing anything about.

According to U.S. maritime industry sources, tanker captains are reporting an increase in onboard alarms from hazard sensors designed to detect hydrocarbon gas leaks and, specifically, methane leaks. However, the leaks are not emanating from cargo holds or pump rooms but from continental shelves venting increasing amounts of trapped methane into the atmosphere. With rising ocean temperatures, methane is increasingly escaping from deep ocean floors. Methane is also 21 more times capable of trapping heat in the atmosphere than carbon dioxide.

In fact, one of the major sources for increased methane venting is the Hudson Submarine Canyon, which extends 400 miles into the Atlantic from the New York-New Jersey harbor. Another location experiencing increased venting is the Santa Barbara Channel on the California coast.

Family vacates home after chemical leak

January 08, 2007, 18:15

A Durban family has vacated their home for accommodation in a hotel following an alleged chemical leak. ... Investigations into the source of the noxious chemical stench are continuing. ... The unbearable fumes forced them to vacate their house.

Wyne Hartmann, the refinery general manager at Engen said: “Our actions were humanitarian only. There was a smell and the city health are busy investigating, as it stands it is linked to sewerage system, so the smell come via the sewerage system. It has nothing to do with us." The environmental activists disagree.
