Story on NPR news about Bushites removing Maliki gvt (Is this the elected gvt?)
Edited on Tue Jan-16-07 07:14 PM by uppityperson
as they were not doing what bushites wanted them to do. Did anyone else hear of this? It seems, well, odd, stating so outright that Maliki was their puppet and would be removed. I was driving and could pay only partial attention to what they were saying, but did anyone else catch this? Is this a news story I missed or just talking heads?

1. Did they fail to give the oil to the BFEE? Isn't Maliki the justification for the "surge"?
(we just need a bit of help until he takes over")

2. No, it was something about removing him and his gvt since they
weren't supporting the escalation. Was he the elected leader? I am confused. Thank you.

4. At least Bush can't say he brought democracy to Iraq
anymore.

They aren't even going to try to pretend anymore.

5. That was what struck me and I thought maybe I was confused.
which I was. Isn't the "Maliki government" supposed to be the democratically elected gvt of Iraq? It seemed odd that they were saying they were going to remove it so blatantly, got me wondering if Maliki wasn't "elected". (hard to type without using excessive quote marks)

3. Bush** is removing Iraq's democratically elected government?
Haven't heard it myself, but wouldn't surprise me. Once again Bush** will prove it's only democracy if you agree with him.

7. That is the "democratically elected gvt" then, right?
That was what confused me. I couldn't believe they were so blatantly saying that that perhaps Maliki was "officially" a puppet rather than "democratically elected". Are they removing his title, the quotes, making him "removable puppet see he wasn't really elected, heh heh heh"?

12. No need for confusion for you see, it doesn't matter either way
Maliki's gov't is a puppet government, subordinate to Bush**'s wishes, and continues at his leisure. Maliki would still be in exile in London if it weren't for Bush**.

But Bush** also removes truly democratically elected leaders. Aristide of Haiti for example. Then there's the coup/assassination attempt and subsequent rubbishing of Chavez.

So you can't determine the legitimacy of a government just because Bush** derides or removes them. He does that to anyone who disagrees with him, whether the disagreement is valid or not.

However, it will make things very interesting if he removes the Maliki gov't, because he does so adore referring to those purple-stained Iraqi fingers, the democratically elected government, and how democracy has taken root there. All eyes on are Iraq. Will his Imperial Hubris dare to undercut his own assertions about democracy by clearing the stage for a more obsequious actor? I would not be surprised.

14. That what got me, the blatant removing of the purple finger elected person
My confusion was was this the purple finger elected person, since it seemed so blatant that rather than this being a High Democratic Process and Cheers for Iraqis Everywhere, it was "you talked back, you be gone" sort of thing.

16. That's because the Decider is also the Definer
Bush** gets to define what is democracy and what isn't, and that's hard work because as we all know the definition of everything in the world is a moving target. Yes, it's true. Your dictionary is useless. At least since Clinton said "It depends on what the definition of 'is' is", and the Repugs decided his shell game with words was so good they would take it to a whole new breathtakingly treacherous level.

Or maybe they invented it and Clinton only borrowed it for a day.

In answer to your other question, yes, Maliki is the purple finger person. And the hypocrisy will be there for all to witness if Bush** removes him from power. Not that that's anything new.

8. I guess that's the next big corner that we'll turn - Bush as the new emperor
over the Iraqi province. There was Mission Accomplished, Qusay's and Ouday's dispatch, Saddam's capture, the dispatch of Al Zarqawi, the Iraqi constitution, the Iraqi provisional government, the ink fingers, the new government, Saddam's execution, the surge. Yup, happiness and good times in Iraq are always just around the corner.

9. Was this Maliki gvt the elected purple finger one?
I was trying to remember how it went, came up with appointed provisional gvt, vague recollection of purple finger elections with Maliki not being top winner but put in place? Trying to remember but can't, so any help is appreciated. Thank you.

11. It was on the news, radio in car, that this might happen.
It made me laugh and think "wow, they aren't even going to pretend anymore". I can't remember who it was that said it, but struck me as "the bush administration may.." sort of thing.

15. Everyone's mad at Maliki because he is Al-Sadr's ally, whose army the surge is really going after.
Maliki has been against this obviously, and is therefore regarded as the main problem by Iraqi VP Tariq al-Hashimi (a Sunni) and the US.
