...the price that it would have cost me out of pocket this afternoon for my daughter's prescription Omnicef for a viral infection had we not had healthcare insurance. Thank goodness for our ability to currently afford healthcare insurance. Yet there are 45 million Americans without healthcare insurance who would have had to make the decision to treat their children's illness or pay a good portion of the utilities, rent or food for the month.

even tho they know the medication will be needed for
a lifetime.
The drug salesmen leave
the doctors with enough samples that
they can view themselves as

in denial about how the system
that rewards physicians so well

2. And a lot of people have some insurance, but no prescription

coverage.

A couple times I've bought medicines out of pocket at pharmacies to be met with startled google-eyed expressions from the person at the pharmacy counter: "You're going to pay for this... out of pocket??"

"No, I'm just going to stay sick and die, what do you think??" :grr:

4. I have had times when I was covered by 3 different plans at once.

Though only one would have been "primary".
My old job, my new job, and my husband's job.

Yet our three children couldn't get insurance even through their jobs (no insurance available).

here's a story. . .

My son ingeniously collided with another child playing hockey last year. I got a call from the school nurse. I said, "this can never be good news." She said your son has had an accident has a minor cut over his eyelid but probably needs stitches. So after consulting the local athetic director he advised us to go to the emergency room at the hospital as I wasn't sure that his pediatrition could perform stitches.

So we go and wait and wait and wait for about 5 hours. The doctor glued his eyelid back together in less than five minutes.

I later learned from my x that what they use to glue wounds is chemically the same as krazy glue.

The bill was $975 .

I could have done that in my kitchen for pete's sake without the ordeal. Go figure.

8. Something is wrong when we see

collection jars in convenience stores to pay for major health care. In the wealthiest country on the planet.

40 million senior and disabled citizens are faced with this conundrum. Leaves us with a whopping 85 million Americans who are uninsured, underinsured, or face losing quality health care benefits!

10. Whenever possible, get prescriptions filled at Costco -- they sell

drugs at a very low price, you don't need to be a member to get prescriptions filled, and you can keep some profits away from the drug companies, even if you are insured. Let's vote with our feet!

12. my mom , who is on social security, just had her yearly checkup..

she's upset because the dr. told her, her blood pressure is up, her cholesterol is up and her blood sugar level is up,are you taking your meds? she..no I can't afford them..he:,(upset) well you'd better start doing without something cuz you need them. He gave her samples for a month.

14. Every doctor who hears that needs to blizzard his/her congressional

representatives, the drug companies, and the newspapers with the kinds of choices he/she advocates and witnesses every day. They can also tell their drug rep they will not be prescribing a particular brand unless huge heaps of "samples" are made available for those patients not able to pay for their medication. Act, damned doctors!

13. I've been lucky

Past two years, I haven't had any kind of coverage (although we're supposed to be getting some at the small company I work for soon), and I've been sick once. Probably cost me $200.00 to go to the doctor and then pay for a subscription, which is just about what it would have cost for me to have pay for health benefits taken out of my paycheck over a year when I worked for a large company with health benefits.

Hopefully I can hang on another month or two when bossman will make his decision what coverage to get.
