List of things "going well" in Iraq?

Ok - this is one of those talking points that they all use and NEVER get called on.

All of them say it...

"You don't hear about the good things happening in Iraq - the media focuses on the bad things..."

Everytime someone says that - somebody has to ask "List one thing that is going well"

Somebody call C-SPAN and challenge the callers to come up with ONE SINGLE EXAMPLE of something going well in Iraq.

Everytime they use it - they miss an oppourtunity to tell us something good...

7. You missed exactly one thing, to be fair.

The initial invasion went reasonably well. Removing a bad government is easy. Creating a good one is much, much harder (and, indeed, arguably actually impossible in Iraq).

Broadly speaking, IIRC, things went to pot at about the time Bush declared victory (although the seeds were sown well before that).

It went well as an exercise...but alarms should have been going off as soon as we realized that WE WERENT BEING ATTACKED...

Somebody had be able to say - "Wait a minute, something is not right here...Have we miscalculated?"

Looking back three years later, how can you say the initial invasion was successful? Nothing about the takeover and occupation has been successful.

But the fact is parents are afraid to send their children to school. Would you send your kid to school in a war zone?

The new schools claims have always bothered me.

I'll repeat an unsolved challenge.
Who can find a handful of pics to support the administrations contention.

Pics showing a new school of modest size, say a dozen classes, somehere in Bagdhad.
Each class filled with fed and clothed children, sitting at their desks with pencils, paper and text books, with each class being taught by a qualified teacher.
And useful sports and play areas with appropriate equipment, along with clean drinking water and proper sanitation.
Just the real basics needed to create a healthy learning environment.

If such a school exists (even just one), why is it so hard to find any pics of it?

good things. So we don't know about all the schools and hospitals and whatever else they imagine is blooming over there. The media is only reporting the bad stuff.

25. And when they use that old line, they never counter it with any

evidence that there is good news to report. They blame the media for not reporting anything but bad news, but the reporters state that the security situation is so bad that they are unable to go out into the towns and villages to see what is happening.

Believe me, I would love to hear some good news coming out if Iraq. The fact that our troops are dying and being injured over there is just obscene if there isn't some good coming out of it. The fact that so many Iraqis are dying and being injured is just as obscene if there isn't some good coming out of it.

Good news, to me, would be that attacks are less numerous, people are not dying in the streets every day, children can go to school without fear of being shot or blown up, everyone has clean water to drink, there's enough electricity being generated so they don't have periods of blackouts. If there's news like that out there, I would really like to hear it. The fact that no one is reporting this makes be believe that it isn't happening with any regularity.

....on rebuilding. So they say.

Schools aren't being rebuilt.
That is obvious.

I would love to see an independent crew go into Falujah for a week and bring us back 2 hours of documentary on the state of that most ancient and once beautiful city. They would have a hard task finding any properly functioning schools there I do believe.

22. ABC's Good Morning America reported on Bush and Cheney accusing the media

of failing to report the "good things" that are happening in Iraq. I was about to switch the TV off in disgust, when they went to an ABC reporter in Iraq, who said that if Americans think the news they see is bad, they should see what is shown on Iraqi TV. He said that Americans are being shielded from the truly gruesome nature of what is happening in Iraq. It was not a good report for the Bush administration.

1. A few Iraqis became millionaires by collecting the Rewards for info. on the Deck of Cards folk. Others got rich from the $Billion handouts. Some folk must've gotten some of the $9 billion that went missing.

2. A few Iraqi Politicians are doing quite well on the American Middle Class Taxpayers money.

3. Funeral folk are prospering.

4. The Black Market in weopons is doing great biz.
