he finally starts speaking in English, there is an English translater. Also, Kennedy said we are a country of immigrants. Not anymore we're not. We take in no more or no less legal immigrants then other countries so where does he get this. Now we are a country of races with immigrant histories. Am I wrong for thinking this? We are almost 250 years old, and I honestly think we are on the downside of surviving. Am I wrong for thinking this way? Seriously, I'm not a bigot and I'm not being sarcastic.

He has the immigrants protesting for false hopes by claiming what "HE" would do for them. It doesn't work that way (not yet anyway). Then there is the illegal war, generals are voicing out AGAINST the reasoning of the war and how Rumsfield Afghanistan is the same as before we bombed them. This country is one that accomodates change, or at least it did. This country looks, demographically, quite different than it did fifty years ago, and fifty years before that, and fifty years before that. The cultures that come add to the mix, not take away from it.

Why do you think we are on the downside of surviving? Do you advocate stopping all immigration? Two of my grandparents were immigrants & I am not ashamed of them.

What do you mean by "we are a country of races with immigrant histories"? In this context--what does "race" mean? Couldn't you have just said "people"? Of course, many of the African-Americans were "involuntary" immigrants. Not all--I know some Nigerians who plan on staying. And some of us "immigrated" millenia ago.

Edited to add: I've read your profile & that Teddy Roosevelt quotation explained your position. He wrote it a few days before death--when WWI xenophobia was still rampant. The New Republicans have a problem with Roosevelt the Trust Buster & Roosevelt the Conservationist. So that quotation is quite popular in some circles.

... but in any case, Kennedy blabbing in espanol does help one thing: it starts to dilute the white-folks-speaking-spanish thing, so that people realize that LOTS of people can speak spanish - no solamente republicanos con esposas latinas...
