Why Bush warned about preventing Iran from having the "knowledge" necessary to make nukes
Bush: "I've told people that if you're interested in avoiding World War III, it seems like you ought to be interested in preventing them (Iran) from having the knowledge necessary to make a nuclear weapon," Bush said.

I had been wondering why Georgie used the phrase "preventing them (Iran) from having the knowledge necessary to make a nuclear weapon" recently instead of warning against Iran acquiring the weapons themselves.

He was anticipating the NIE and needed a fall back position.

2. I agree. He was caught in another whopper and was trying to cover his
ass.

NOTE: I get irony whiplash everytime Chimpy uses the word 'knowledge'. For a guy who's powered by feral instinct, what the fuck would he know about knowledge?

7. He said the same thing about Iraq, after he was busted on WMD. The only difference with Iran...
...is that he said it pre-emptively. As galling as his lies are, I'm sometimes even more outreaged at the utter disdain he has for the common sense of the American people.

9. Anybody here remember?
Back in 1976, there was a student from Princeton who wanted to see if he could get all the info to build a nuclear weapon from publicly available sources? I do, because his brother lived in my dorm at the time. He told us to watch the evening news, that his brother was going to be on it and we were all trying to guess why. He wouldn't say, just told us to wait and watch, so we did. We were all thinking it had to be some human interest piece at the end, but no, here he was, one of the lead stories. He made quite a stir at the time, but he proved the point that all (well just for one fact) the information was out there ready to be had. The only fact that he didn't have was the neutron absorption cross-section for U-238 and he managed to get that in one phone call to Los Alamos. In their defense, it was a classified number and they shouldn't have given it out, but somehow, someone did.

If that was the state of information in 1976, I wonder what makes Dimbulb George think you can prevent people from finding out today.

11. That's how they do it
That's how they get away with it. And anybody who says they should be given a pass, while playing the same word parsing games themselves, well when are people going to figure it all out.

14. BUSHIT!
The knowledge to know how to make a nuclear weapon is not the problem of making one.... It's getting the actual components required to make a nuclear weapon that is the problem.
