Hill-bullies May Bring US Four More Years of GOP Rule
Hill-bullies May Bring US Four More Years of GOP Rule By Dr. Michael D. Rectenwald 08 Dec 2007 Hillary Clinton is the person that everyone-from various political positions-loves to hate. Of course, she's the favorite nemesis of the far-right pundit- and blogosphere. Check your cable listings; Foxy News (notice the array of neo-Nazi-card-carrying blondes fawning over O'Reilly and Hannity) celebrates a round-the-clock Hill-bashing from now until Election Day in 2008, if she gets that far. The Hillary-haters on rightwing media are so vehement they need napkins for the foam frothing from their mouths. Rush Limbaugh has a special spittoon installed. The microphone is often replaced after sounds become inaudible.

But the Hill-bullies are not exclusive to Faux and Raunch. Chris Matthews, the otherwise floundering middleweight chameleon, has a special, heavyweight hankering for Hillary hate. His animus appears to be especially personal, as if she's somehow slighted him, or refused him a date. He misses no opportunity to scorn her smile, ridicule her delivery, or sneer at the color of her dress. He spares nary a minute bolstering any opponent she might have, be he Obama, Edwards or even a Republican. He's like the DC sniper, lying in wait, always on the hunt for Hillary. His guests try to change the subject, embarrassed for his custom-fetishized caviling.

Not only on cable do we find them. They lurk in the real news, among the New York Times editorial staff or in the far left blogosphere. Here Hillary's haters may be more fretful than angry. For them, Hillary is "Bush-lite," or worse, a neoconspiratorialist posing as a Democrat while really harboring hopes for world domination. She's the ultimate Clintonian silly putty who's not so silly, who actually harbors a secret Nazi within. You can see it leaking out if you look close enough.

How can Hillary represent such antithetically absolute evils to such radically opposed people? According to the far right, she's the abortion-mongering, socialized-medicine hawking, neo-Marxist-Orwellian, abolish-your-freedoms-for-the-sinister-secularist satanic state candidate. For others, she's the epitome of DLC sellout, rightwing conciliating, Bush-licking, Project for a New American Century politics. She's the Manchurian candidate that changes shape to match anyone's hopes and fears: the rightwing impostor posing as liberal (the leftist view), or a real evil socialist posing as a liberal (the rightist view). And, the two sides often borrow each other's metaphors for poignancy. Take the vigilante ad concocted by the non-affiliated Obama fan, which featured Hillary as Big Sister in true UN form.

<snip>

...I am proposing to demythologize and right-size the image of Hillary on the left. (I know I'll gain no hearing from the right.) I'm also asking those left of center to consider why so many right-wingers are prone, as if it were a sexual compulsion, to beat on her. In addition to socialism, does she also represent a feared matriarch, a feared mother, or a spouse out of control?

I believe it is demonstrable that the left is being bitten and infected by the rhetoric of the right when it comes to our presidential candidates, most particularly when it comes to Hillary Clinton.

<snip>

I'm not saying that we should be happy to take what we can get. But if we continue to join in all those rein-in-Hillary games of the right, we might just end up with Rudolph or Huckabee.

this is still the primaries and some of us are working against the envitability of another slick clinton in the whitehouse. She's a follower not a leader.. which our country needs.

Is Hillary Clinton a "Corporate Democrat"? By Eriposte 10 Oct 2007 (Note: This is Part Three of the series.)

This post examines the allegation that Sen. Hillary Clinton is a "Corporate Democrat" - namely, a person who is beholden to "Corporate America" and who is more likely to support "corporate interests" as President than the interests of average or middle-class Americans.

<snip>

LOTS of good info in this essay!

7. I'm not a Clinton hater, though I've become more modulated in my adoration over the years
and that modulation has nothing to do with a blow job or a blue dress but rather NAFTA and other corporatist tendencies on both of their parts. OTOH, they weren't a half bad President and I'm sure they will again.

some of us want more than liars who play with our Soldiers lives for political expediency.

I can't believe I have to explain this to a political board.

31. I'm unsure
I've begun to doubt the honesty of my own side. That is why I think it's inevitable, not because I don't think there are plenty of us who want more. I'm just unsure whether what we want in any way translates to what will happen. I doubt the voting process. Yet another sequelae of living under fascist rule and being told it's a democracy. One begins to doubt and be for you know it, doubt is rolling down the hill like a giant snowball. Snowball from hell.

4. ridiculous
she will either be accountable for her past or she will be hung with it. Blaming her critics for raising her past, especially Democrats who have reservations, is the trick which will sink her.

By the way, the 'right' doesn't own the language.

I defend Dems in general.I remember with regret how the same thing was done to Gray Davis, mostly by Dems. Then again, supporters of loser Steve Westley trashed Phil Angelides to non viability, in the real race for Governor. Foolish

10. the gop doesn't want 4 more years...they're up to the neck already
now let's admit the gop isn't the borg, and there are rah rahs in the party, as usual, and the go pigmedia are trying to pretend everything is a ok, roger houston, but even if it's just pendulum swinging time, the last thing the repukes need is another session on top (they're all bottom dwellers by nature and conviction anyway)...fiction has muddied the waters for so long the MSmedia can keep up the 'great race of '08' nonsense, and millions of gullibles will drink it up, but the last 7 years really REALLY happened, and even the most lawless repuke doesn't want criminals running the country, if there's any choice. the real question is how the fix is gonna be put in (no impeachment, and blamket pardons presented as fait accompli but never subjected to media scrutiny etc)
in a way, democrats should all vote repuke next year just to tie the bastards to their crimes some more...

make it seem as though hillary isn't their 'true chosen one'. It's a trick to make her more attractive to those who can't/don't/won't see her for the con she is.

16. Clinton's right-wing pandering and corporate shilling...
will drive away progressives, populists, and people on the left, making the election close enough for the GOP to steal again. Which, to be honest, is still a win for the corporate wing of the Dem Party and their sponsors.

That's a more accurate headline, I think.

18. What a happy load of horseshit this is.
Sounds like this screed could have come directly out of GD-Politics here. It repeats the same tired mantra that if you dislike Hillary's positions, including her pro war stance, her vote for the Patriot Act, her corporate health plan, etc. etc., you are somehow a "hater", a misogynist or worse who is being unduly influenced by the right wing smear machine.:eyes:

Gee, thanks for insulting my intelligence, thanks for the implication that I can't make up my own mind without being influenced by the right. This is the typical bullshit put out by the Hillary partisans, designed to silence those of us on the left. It is a baseless argument that assumes much and insults many. It is a baseless, intellectually dishonest position to take, and while frankly I had hoped that the Hillary partisans would be above this sort of thing, as we've seen time and again, they aren't.

30. No, you can dislike Hillary's politics, but the misogyny is undeniable.
I mean, a The Washington Post editorialist is debating whether or not Hillary Clinton's outfit reveals too much cleavage and the pitch of her laugh - not to mention Chris Matthews women-hating anti-Hillary rants --the misogyny is undeniable.

It happened with Bill. The people distrust Hillary. She won't promise to remove the troops from Iraq before 2012.

nominee. I think any one of them would be an good president. I am appalled at the way supposed Dems do their best to tear down our own candidates. I would rather see people promote their preferred candidate rather than attack their choice's Democratic competitors.

It's going to be our fault for not eagerly embracing her coronation from the beginning. It won't be because she was the worst choice for a candidate the Dems could possibly have made. :eyes:

28. This is a FACT.
It is a waste of time trying to rationalize it, explain it, understand it, excuse it, or (especially) IGNORE it.

This is a FACT:
Hillary IS divisive.

Millions of Americans on the Left, Right, and Center will NOT vote for Hillary under ANY circumstances.
A Hillary nomination will throw away millions of votes (on the Left, Right, AND Center)) that could go to a less divisive candidate.

The proper way to deal with this FACT is to acknowledge it, and use your Primary vote wisely.

It is NOT wise to nominate a candidate as divisive as Hillary in this election.
