Video obtained by Channel 4 clearly shows that Bhutto was shot
Edited on Sun Dec-30-07 03:29 PM by Satyagrahi
The video also shows that she was already inside the car when the explosion happened. Watch for yourself (video at link),

Channel 4 News has exclusively obtained dramatic new footage which shows in clear detail the moment of Benazir Bhutto's death.

Three bullets are heard being fired before a suicide bomber then detonates his device.

A firearms expert has told this programme that the video shows what appears to be a concussion strike, the possible moment of impact when a bullet struck the former Pakistani prime minister.

It contradicts the official Pakistani government account that Mrs Bhutto died from hitting her head on the sun roof as she ducked into the car.

1. I don't know why it's relevant
It was a two stage attack, the guy was going to blow himself up whether he hit or missed.

4. I think it is relevant because the new evidence clearly contradicts

the official story by the Pakistani government, creating or increasing the suspicion that the government itself was somehow involved in the attack.

7. Two reasons
1. Did the government lie about the cause of death to cover something up like its complicity?
2. Was it actually an assassination by a sharpshooter either from the government or some other party that was made to look like a terrorist attack?

her scarf is tossed, and she falls. Well before a bomb blast.

Some good answers were given:

Confusion and distraction are the most likely, as well as not allowing her to be a clear martyr.

11. Making her death look like an "accident" makes it less "political"
Edited on Sun Dec-30-07 03:47 PM by rocknation
which in turn makes her look like less of a martyr to her supporters and provides a perfect way for Musharraf to deflect suspicion that he was complicit. Which may also be why he's also claiming to have evidence that Al Qaeda did it!

12. They say twice in the video that
the Pakistani government is involved in a cover up design to reduce criticism of lax security for Bhutto, who had repeatedly asked Musharraf for more protection.

As I see it, they are indeed trying to rewrite history as the video clearly shows in horrific detail and in no ambiguous terms that it was a bullet that dropped her followed by the explosion.

14. Regardless if it was a bullet or fractured skull that killed her - security was
lax enough to allow a gunman to be right next to the car, and ditto the suicide bomber. Inane.

29. Her husband reportedly said he refused to allow an autopsy by the authorities.
From BBC:

Mr Zardari also said he had refused to allow an autopsy on Ms Bhutto's body.

"I've lived here long enough to know how and where an autopsy would have been conducted," he said.

Instead, he said the party was asking the United Nations and the British government to conduct an investigation similar to the one carried out after the killing of the former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/7164968.stm

27. Does it make a difference if the shooter was ISI/military?
And if the shooter was not the bomber? And if the bombing was was perhaps a cover for a conventional hit? ISI has ties to terrorist outfits so it's not entirely improbable that the bombing was intended to bat clean up, creating mass confusion and carnage, perhaps also taking out the shooter, and provide a pretext for the Pakistani gov't to blame the terrorists they claim to be fighting.

Perhaps the question should be, why is how she was killed important to the Pakistani government? They insist that she wasn't shot and quickly release what they say is a monitored telephone conversation transcript that ties an AQ guy to the assassination. And if the ISI could indeed monitor the guy's phone calls to conveniently provide an after action report, are we to assume they weren't also monitoring beforehand if, that is, the conversation is not a complete fiction?

Since this assasination is providing fuel to the War on Terra folks, perhaps it matters if it was a gov't sponsored hit by one of our "allies."

17. That video report is amazing
The reporter is on camera in a Pakistan street surrounded by people - everyone there knows about this.
This reminds me of what happened in Spain after the train bombing - the government lied about it just before the election, everyone knew it was a lie and voted them out.

Thanks for this great video, and welcome to DU!

with their explanation, they have basically admitted complicity.

This does not bode well for the region.

Why would he try to cover a story, knowing that a video would soon prove him wrong. He'd have been better to keep his mouth shut. Or blame it an Al-Qaeda shooter/assassin. They eff'd up big time.

We can countdown to Martial Law OR Mushy's removal.

Musharaff is surrounded by people who are his enemy, and he has thrown his lot in with them. They are more dangerous to him than the US is. So where does that put the US, not in a very good position, imho.

32. Extremely sad ...
... the blood and her black shoe on the seat of her vehicle. After seeing that, there's absolutely no doubt that she was shot in the head. You can see it - her hair, her scarf.

The suicide bomber was not the shooter. My opinion is that his job was to stand close enough ( right behind the shooter, in white ) and detonate right after Bhutto was shot. That way the shooter can never be questioned as to who hired him. ( Shades of Ruby taking out Oswald, only this time, immediately. ) The fact that the "Official" story unbelievably said she hit her head, only proves to point blame at the Musharref government. An unbelievably stupid lie, if you ask me. Being caught in such a boldfaced lie like this, only makes me believe more strongly that upcoming elections will be cancelled. They can't risk what happened in the Spanish election, after that government was caught lying.

So sad.

34. Yesterday a photo showed the shooter.
My impression was that he looked like a CIA Agent or Secret Service Agent, not that I believe that he was either of those. Right behind him was a man dressed in what I can only describe as traditional Muslim clothing. It seems that the shooter might not have been aware that the bomber was assigned to blow him up after he shot his target. My guess is that this was a combination of ISI/Taliban/al Q Operation.

35. Well ...
... the "Official" version would certainly WANT us to believe the bomber was Al Q/ Taliban, etc. to take attention away from themselves, if involved. That's certainly what they've been shouting from the rooftops anyway. And what better way than to have them dress in the traditional Muslim clothing ? I agree though, like Oswald, the shooter was probably unaware that as soon as he accomplished his mission, he was a goner too.

40. You should be a headline writer for the National Enquirer
I read the article it does not say the video "clearly shows that Bhutto was shot".

In fact, the one sentence concerning her death includes the phrases "what appears to be" and "the possible moment of impact".

43. I was referring to the video, not to the article. And the video does clearly
show that she was shot. You can see how she collapses and completely disappears inside the car before the blast happens, so she can't have been hit by shrapnel or the shock wave of the explosion (smashing her against the lever of the sunroof; the official story). This leaves only the possibility that the wound was caused by a bullet (or perhaps several bullets). There is simply no other logical explanation.

So my headline is based on my own conclusions after watching the video, not on the article.
