Please help Tavvi and Connor...
Two boys will be removed from their homes by DHS. They don't want to go. Their teachers, foster parents, community, friends, and loved ones are desperate for help. DHS Virginia will be removing them from their home in Oregon (of 2+ years) to be placed in new care awaiting their birth parents' supposed completion of Rehab and Counseling. Unfortunately this is a tragic tale. I don't normally post to DU just for exposure's sake... but this qualifies as a PLEASE REC THIS if you care about the plight of Families...

Thanks for letting us know about this. I don't understand why the kids can't stay where they are until the parents get their act together. (???)

2. me neither
Apparently, it has been essential to use Non Violent Communication techniques. For most "regular" people this would have gotten to the OUTRAGE stage long ago. That of course would not have helped with the Social Services folk. I hope that with enough people calling and raising attention to this obvious poorly thought out situation, they'll reverse the order and send the kids HOME.

3. It sounds to me like
there was a decision made when the people from VA arrived early that morning and decided, ultimately, not to take the kids. It seems that they returned to their workplace and told the people in charge there that they decided it was not in the best interests of the children to remove them - at that time.

That's a great big step, a good start.

Hi Stephanie-
I wanted to keep you up to date on the status of the children's case and Virginia. We have received notification that Tavvi and Connor will still be completing the transition back to Virginia. I am currently unaware of when they are planning to arrive in Oregon. The understanding is that Connor and Tavvi will be moving before Christmas.

I will let you know any new information that I receive, and when the transition will occur. Please let me know if there is anything that I can assist with to make this easier on the children, such has having you come with the children to the airport. Our agency is open to suggestions.

6. Oh, for fuck's sake............
Having worked as a guardian ad litem for kids here in the great commonwealth of Virginia, I am not surprised at this kind of plan. They bend over backwards to restore rights to abusive parents, and very often forget that there are kids involved - you know, little human beings.

The chances of Oregon getting jurisdiction over this matter is, in my opinion, nil.

This is a tragedy of epic proportions. I am so sorry for everyone involved. Lives ruined because bureaucrats insist on "playing by the rules."

And at Christmas, no less. Nice touch. If you put this stuff in a novel, no one would believe it.

4. another link from Kimya Dawson
that alerted my wife and consequently me of this tragic tale.

Apparently the "foster mom" is an older sibling of the 2 boys.
