MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) – The White House has announced that President Barack Obama will nominate Vermont state Judge Christina Reiss, of Essex Junction, to fill a vacancy on the U.S. District Court for Vermont.
Reiss, of Essex Junction, would be the first woman to serve on the federal court in Vermont. She was recommended by Sen. Patrick Leahy, who chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee that will review the nomination.
Gov. Jim Douglas appointed Reiss, pronounced “Rice,” to the state court system in 2004. She had previously served as a lawyer in private practice.
