Enrollment soars for Pasco's new eSchool (Vouchers may be last year's issue)

LAND O'LAKES — Pasco's eSchool, the virtual school program that provides computer courses that students can take at their own pace, is proving more popular than officials expected.

In launching the online K-12 venture this fall, Pasco school district officials projected that students would enroll in 650 courses all year.

Already, the program has attracted more than 1,000 course enrollments in grades 6-12. More than 800 requests are pending for the second semester before official registration begins, administrator JoAnne Glenn told the School Board on Tuesday.



This appears to be working a little differently from the Florida Virtual School which is really popular with homeschoolers. I think it's still evidence that this is the future, this is what more and more people are going to want to do. It might also open up teaching opportunities for people who might not teach in a public setting due to physical disability, disfigurement, or speech impediment.

4. My biggest objection to home schooling is "no schooling"

I have met a couple of kids who are supposedly being home schooled who are actually not being schooled at all (by any reasonable definition). One of these kids would probably be diagnosed with some sort of disability (total lack of discipline if nothing else) and the other one is simply in a religious cult. Fortunately, both appear to have their financial futures planned for them.

education comes from the free exchange of thoughts between individuals in a one on one setting. the computer is a wonderful tool for research and real time information but it just one small part of the educational experience.

3. Many people do hybrid.

We started off with private school doing some Virtual School, and then morphed into Home School with Virtual School and twice a week tutor. This is in addition to interacting with other home schoolers in physical education, arts, and social.(beach volleyball, swimming, ice skating, roller skating, ballroom dancing, theater, field trips, camps, etc...)
