Did you think unions and the rank and file are joking when we say we will boycott?

Did Massachusetts and Scott Brown winning Teddy's old seat not teach this party anything?

Anti-unionism in the Democratic Party is not only nauseating, it's disgraceful and shameful. Test the resolve of unions and learn what the word solidarity means.

1. Don't punish the whole party for 5 or 6 Senators who won't vote for cloture
Or maybe it's 2 or 3. Anyway, sitting out the election because Ben Nelson and Blanche Lincoln won't grant cloture when 57 other Democrats will do so makes no sense.

By all means boot Lincoln in her primary this year, but what you suggest makes no sense.

13. Obama "could" go after those votes...
...like he went after Kucinich.
....if he wanted to.

2. Send a message to the party and the party will send a message
to the holdouts.

The party wants democratic voters to vote in a block? Let them show us how it is done.

I'm management, not a union member, but I see the value of unions every day.

I, too, am getting tired of the anti-unionism I see in the Democratic Party.

If the unions boycott the party, I'll have no trouble honoring that boycott.

4. Unions have lost a lot of ground by compromising
and a return to standing tough is the only way to regain it. "Pragmatism" hasn't produced anything but losses. In my opinion, we're close to where we were in the days of the robber barons. Only a shift from a producing (manufacturing) economy to a non-producing (money-changing) economy hides that fact. This isn't politics anymore, it's the continuation of politics by other means.

Standing on principle is the rocky road, but one worth traveling.

I'm always amused by people who are offended by those who refuse to compromise their principles for the sake of political solutions. I call standing by principles integrity. The alternative to integrity is how we got into this mess. No more lesser of two evils.

5. So true...
A good example of how bad compromise can be, real HC reform was compromised right out of the new HC law. They compromised the PO and/or MC for all right out of the final law.

I'm tired of seeing every progressive cause get compromised right out of the debate in DC.

Standing firm is our last resort. It's all we got left.

"Standing on principle is the rocky road, but one worth traveling."

I wrote that down. It's worth remembering and repeating. I couldn't agree more!

Peace

11. The PO was always a compromise on the Single Payer System
So, to show you how low the party has sunk, they actually compromised on their compromised position from the start. It was a corporate sellout from Day 1.

Peace,

From a former 10-year AFSCME/AFL-CIO union steward and organizer.

6. I don't see how sitting out an election would help
The Unions should make their fight in Primaries. I know what you mean about some Dems being way too wishy washy on their Union support - but even the worst Dem isn't as bad as the Republicans. They are absolutely hostile to organized labor. they want to end it. Let them have more power and the Unions will have less.

8. well, yeah - we could just give up.
Is it tired old argument or truth that Republicans are openly and actively hostile to organized labor?

You can be sick and tired of cowardly Dems - hell aren't we all? but I don't think the answer is to give up. We need a reinvigorated labor movement, we need MORE solidarity - in the right directions.

12. Sorry, I don't reward treachery
there comes a point of diminishing returns, when you get sick and tired of getting nothing on your investment. They let you see quite plainly that they don't need your support, but would be delighted to take your vote and forget you. A fools game
