What's with box story?? I just don't get it. I missed the beginning, but I'm a little bit worried about Keith, for the first time ever.

as his dad had suggested. Very cool.

3. He is reading a James Thurber story.

He explained earlier that he would occasionally read these short stories because Thurber was one of the greatest humorists of the 20th century, and he was encouraged to do so by Thurber's family. Also, his father loved Thurber and KO would read the stories to him when he was sick.

I love Thurber, too. It's a great idea.

Unfortunately, I missed the earlier segment (and I've never read Thurber), so I didn't realize that Keith was reading a Thurber story.

Hence my confusion. :shrug: I was afraid Cliff was actually trying to hide in a box. :hide:

9. My mom loved Thurber too. I hit second hand book stores years ago, rounding up all the Thurber

Knowing laughter was healing, I figured it wouldn't hurt. She got over the heart attacks that had flat lined her a few times.

Thurber is a tribute to humanity, and those honest enough to really face it.

I say Bravo to KO and am grateful to the encouragement of his dad and Thurber's family to read on air. We need more humanity, honest humanity. We need to be reminded to bravely look into the dark of us all


and laugh.

I think my mom's shade is smiling this evening. It's good.

a few times and he spent a few minutes talking about his exchanges with Thurber's literary agent, his daughter and grand-daughter earlier in the program tonight.

When my own father is on his deathbed (not for decades still to come, Inshallah) I'll read him anything he damn well wants to hear (I suspect Kerouac or Beckett, but he might surprise me.).

I wonder if he ever read any Thorn Smith. Mom loved Thurber and she loved Thorn Smith. It gave her fuel for her fire. The writings of those two gentlemen got her through some really awful times.

My immediate thought was that he was reacting to his father's death, but I didn't make the Thurber connection.

12. I loved it. It brings home how seldom we hear something other than sound bites

and short, punchy feature stories. I'd love more literature and metaphor in television. And Thurber was a brilliant social commentator in his own right, and clearly a hero of the Olbermanns. I say Go!

Perfect roll for Windom. And the youngster who played the daughter was perfect.

Mom loved that show and she wasn't much for sitcom TV
