It seems quite slow. Maybe I'm spoiled.

1. I don't know about DU .... |
|
but I updated Mozilla today and now everything seems to load slower and stick. Could that be the source of your problems too?

3. It Seems A Little Better Now |
|
But when I first went to the home page, it took forever. Can't sleep right now, so I'm goofing off on DU.

I sure regret my Mozilla update. Slow startup, slow browsing. |
|
So I downloaded Chrome, found a much faster difference.
Downside: Chrome/google does not allow Ad Block type add ons to work.

13. Last time I updated ... |
|
The same thing happened, but Mozilla must have tinkered with it and it righted itself after they did the update prior to this one. I'm hoping that will be the case now too.
I don't think it is my service provider. I have a cable modem from Time Warner and it does pretty well. Let us know how Chrome does overall for you and if Mozilla doesn't get better, it might be a viable alternative. Thanks.

6. I've been noticing some intermittent problems tonight. |
|
Sometimes slow, sometimes unresponsive... but sometimes working just fine.
Other sites are working just fine, so I'm thinking this is a DU-specific issue. Maybe the admins are doing some late-night maintenance.

8. It's the usual 4am slows |
|
I'm a night person so I've noticed this happens every day around 4 a.m.... somewhere between 4 and 4:30 EST. Usually lasts for 15 minutes but sometimes up to a half hour. It's unique to DU so it's not your service provider. It's probably DU's hosting service provider doing some kind of regular maintenance. Whenever 4 am rolls around I just do something else for about a half hour.

perhaps their server doesn't allocate enough bandwidth? Or the ads are more bw heavy than normal?

10. We backup all our data at our business at the same time every early am. |
|
Maybe DU does that, too, and it slows things down a bit.

and lasts for about 15 minutes to a half hour, so I always figured it was DU's provider doing routine maintenance.

14. What are you doing up at 4 a.m.? Just wondering... |
|
I am also often up at 4 a.m. and having a helluva time sleeping the whole night through. I seem to have these sleep episodes 8:30 pm to 1:30 and then 4:30 to 6:30 am. I have reading material but I am just wondering what happened to a full night's sleep...

15. I've been a night person for years |
|
I've always just functioned better at night anyway. The biggest thing I hated about working during the day was having to wake up in the morning. It never matters how much sleep I get it is an absolute struggle for me to wake up in the morning. I never require a lot of sleep or have sleep issues, I just need to do my sleeping at a time that my body/mind is most comfy.

11. Usually, ads are farmed off to some other provider. |
|
All DU has to do is embed the HTML pointing to them at the ad provider.
My bet is that we're seeing some midnight maintenance - database backups or optimization, maybe one of the web servers are being worked on, that sort of thing. Lots of web providers do this. Nothing to worry about.
