The notion of taxing ammo is a good one, as it doesnt require personal information, so that shouldnt be considered unconstitutional.

And if that upsets people, then I hope they would support elimination of taxes on tobacco, as its the same issue, one of a threat to the health of others.

How many millions upon millions of guns are there vs actual harm done by guns (well, guns cannot harm people, people can though - but always easier to blame something else then to face the real problems that are the root of violence/theft).

Typical dem some would say - tax the air you breathe because without it there wouldn't be people hurting others and air is a vital resource. It is no wonder our party has a stereotype of being anti-guns and pro tax everything in existence.

The property tax I pay on my car is 7% of 33% of its blue book value. Similar setup for real estate property tax.

The per-gun tax you cite is 100% of their value, each year, for the 2 guns we own. Not a chance in hell.

I would be fine with a license/registration setup like vehicle licensing that another poster mentioned...even though our guns have left our property all of twice in the last seven years, for target shooting on a family member's rural property.
