The mindset of a conservative liar
Paraphrasing three conservative bullshit artists:

"Yeah, so my claim of firing an employee because he voted for Obama - and the elaborate story surrounding the situation - was all made up. But that's beside the point. It could have been true." - The Texas A&M wannabe bad ass

"Yeah, so my claim that a scary black Obama voter carved a "B" into by face with a knife was completely made up and I mutilated myself to try to help Republicans win. But it could have been true." - The backwards "B" girl

"Yeah, so my claim that my Richmond office was shot at was completely made up. But it could have been true." - Eric Cantor

The bottom line is this. Since reality has a well-known liberal bias, the only times that conservatives can point to something that looks to be in their favor is when they make shit up.

Newt Gingrich makes shit up about the new START treaty. Because the truth doesn't sell.

Sarah Palin makes shit up about "death panels" in the HCR law. Because the truth doesn't sell.

Based on the above and MANY MANY other situations, no story they ever tell about anything should ever be believed until and unless it is completely verified.

They don't just "spin the truth" to make it sound better for them. At least in that case, their spin would be based on the truth.

They've gone beyond that.

Now they simply make shit up.

Conservatives. Make. Shit. Up.

We need to make sure they get called to the carpet every single time it happens. Every single time.

1. Yeah, we DO need to make sure to call their bullshit. Unfortunately, DU is utterly irrelevant
in the national discourse.

Until the MEDIA - the same media that the conservatives (who make shit up) constantly deride is the liberal media - until the MEDIA do their goddamn job and stop being bought and sold by the conservative fundamentalist Christian rightwing asshole agenda, nothing that WE at DU do will matter.

We're too few people.

The only thing that will help us is if the media discover their roots and their responsibility and start actually reporting on the news instead of proffering rightwing talking points.

2. They aren't going to do that unless somebody gives them a shove in the wallet
That's what we do best. We write and call and it all adds up.

Waiting for someone to discover their roots? Oh please. We have to demonstrate that the truth can sell advertising.

5. Cynically awful, but sadly, you're right.
The only way to get the media to report truthfully is to make sure that the truth actually sells more advertising minutes than the bullshit lies of the rightwingers that currently pay for so much of the advertising.

4. Has anyone ever gotten a liberal diatribe that was full of lies
I used to get long essays all the time of a conservative bent detailing some sort of outrage about liberals or detailing the heroics of some conservative.

To a one, they were all lies and easily disproved. I would reply all, detailing the lies, explaining why they were lies, and mocking the people who believed them. A lot of these came from family members - my uncle and aunt finally stopped sending them to me after they said something about something about different perceptions based on political parties, and I replied back that lies were lies no matter what, and there is a commandment against bearing false witness (they're very religious). Some cousin I hardly know said she was blocking me and told me my father is rolling in his grave because of my opinions. I asked her, "So you're telling me my dad, who was president of his iron workers union and who hated Reagan with a passion was a stupid person who believed lies like you?" Mom still routinely forwards me stuff from family members for me to debunk.

One of the things I debunked was something a niece (when she was in high school) sent out. It was a list of stupid quotes by famous people - some real; some not. I corrected the fake ones and noted that the author had attributed a bunch of Dan Quayle quotes to Al Gore to make Al Gore look as stupid as Dan Quayle. A classmate of hers took exception and carried on an email conversation with me for 6 months constantly threatening to kick a mudhole in my chest and demanding my (unlisted) phone number and address. Like I would be that stupid. My niece eventually had to do a group school project with him and showed him a picture of me on her phone. She said that after he saw I was 4 times his size and told her to tell me he was just kidding. :)

Anyway, never have I seen anything approaching anything close to the conservative BS I get. It's proof to me that conservatism just doesn't work, and they have to lie about it constantly.

7. I never have - and considering that my liberal acquaintences outnumber my conservative ones 100:1
it's quite telling to think that I receive far more rightwing bullshit lies non-Christian assholery than I do any kind of message of lies from my liberal friends.

12. Well said, nicely done.
I also sent rebuttals, reply all, and soon received no more of those things -- for years now.

6. And notice that liar dermdoc blames LIBERALS for the fact that his
lie ended up embarrassing him. It's as though he is saying that it's all liberals' fault that he posted the lie in the first place and then got called out for it.

10. Conservatives will accept that excuse readily.
Look what happened when "Joe the Plumber" got called out for lying to Mr. Obama about his situation. "I'm about to buy a business" he said. Not only did the repubs get all outraged about the eeeeevil liberal media for their "vicious attacks" on JTP (in other words, they discovered that he was full of shit) but they made him into a hero. For getting caught in a lie, they made him into a hero. How twisted is that?

11. Yes. All that matters is that they gain power. Consequences and morals are irrelevant to them.

13. I have acquaintances who watch FOX news and then want to tell me what they heard there
My response never changes. It is, "Why would I care to hear what FOX news says? They never stop lying." After a while, the smarter ones figure it out and stop trying to tell me what they hear on FOX news.
