I'm sorry, I didn't want to do a whole new post, I wanted to post my thoughts in a reply, but I could not find an appropriate related post. I cross the Canadian border infrequently to go to toronto because if you live where I live, you need to go to Toronto once in a while. First of all, it kills me how the border stations have Fox news on all the time, I assume most of the border patrol agents are conservative. It must kill them to have Obama and Napolitano's pix on the wall. I don't begrudge them doing their jobs, but you know that some of the stuff they do is not about their jobs. Like when they ask, where were you born because I am not white and they automatically assume that I wasn't born in the US. Now I realize, that is an appropriate question to ask, but you know when they are asking for their own curiosity rather than because it's part of the job. Can someone please tell me how a guy with a HUGE Ryder truck that could have been carrying a freaking missile gets to go through with barely a check of the back of the truck while I am delayed because I am bringing in some groceries over the border. They don't allow fruits and vegetables, I didn't have any fruits or vegetables but the idiot border guy seemed to be unfamiliar with what constitutes a fruit or vegetable. Perhaps he doesn't eat them. Honestly, sometimes I wonder. Do people engage their brain and what does it take to be a border guard? From what I can see, not much and like 1/4 of them are overweight. They couldn't catch a 5 year-old girl without having a heart attack, much less me. To top it all off, these fox news watching idiots are going to get a pension after like 20 yrs of service. I wonder how many people who get pensions are conservatives who rail against "socialism". A bit of an aside but a co-worker, who I actually like, is going to retire and get a BIG FAT pension, like 6 figures, AND social security AND their 401B and this person thinks Obama is horrible and loves Fox News. I wonder how he would feel if his beloved Repukes took his pension away since they hate "socialism".

The Canadian Customs agents were always really nice. On the way back back, the US Agents were always power tripping assholes with scowling faces who just wanted to ruin someone's day so bad.

10. Although the Canadian agents are nice people,

they still didn't seem to understand that my handmade chocolate truffles would spoil while they held my mailed package on the border for three weeks one Christmas season some years back. Needless to say, my past-wife's inlaws had to dump them all once they were finally delivered. No veggies, no fruit, but I guess the Texas cream used was in danger of contaminating all of Ontario's dairy supplies :P

4. I think you have to pass a xenophobia test to be a border guard.

The more you hate people other than your kind, the more likely the border guard is going to select you as an employee. And I find Canadian customs guards are assholes, too. Any young person with long hair seems to have their entire car ransacked at the border if crossing from America into Canada.

Why are they watching tv when they are supposed to be paying the fuck attention to guarding the border. I would report their sorry asses. This cannot be acceptable. Yes I am not surprised they are lazy and overweight, if all they are doing is sitting on their asses watching television. Gawd this bugs the shit out of me.
