CNN's overdosing on The Tea Party "movement"

For some reason, someone at CNN feels constantly mentioning the Tea Party Movement makes for good television. It seems every time this blogger tunes in to CNN, the words "tea party" are uttered many times per hour.

In fact, it's so much that it seems as if CNN's trying to fuel the growth of this so-called movement, when in point of fact it's barely larger than the PUMA group that was supposedly going to take town the presidential campaign of then-Senator Barack Obama.

Not only did that not happen, but the PUMAs were revealed to be only a shadow of their media-enhanced self. CNN was involved in that too at the time, much to the consternation of "Obama Rapid Response" team members, one of them named...Zennie Abraham.

This method of the media creating a political movement should be against the law. CNN and Fox News have spent a lot of time covering, and in Fox's case allegedly promoting, Tea Party events. But in CNN's case, the time spent on this takes away from other more important news. The keyword "tea party" seldom shows up in Google Trends, which means even with the one-two punch of CNN and Fox News, many Americans don't give a you-know-what about the Tea Party "Movement."

CNN should stop; then its ratings would jump.

Stay tuned.

1. Teabaggers are "news" because they get out in public and demonstrate
And they represent controversy. How the media cover politics--even at their most partisan performance--is not unlawful, because we have a Constitution. It may be given lip service on the right, but we on the left happen to be kind of fond of it.

8. Anti-War protestors NEVER got the kind of coverage the Teabaggers are getting
It may not be unlawful, but CNN has an agenda.

9. You're right--CNN DOES have an agenda--a BUSINESS agenda
Most of us think CNN used to be more nonpartisan, then shifted to the right. But it's a business, motivated by business reasons, not politics. If it leans right, it's simply because it's more profitable. Yes, it sucks, but that's the way it is.

11. Of course, all of them are in business to sell advertising. News is the fluff between ads.
CNN is trying to imitate fox to get more ratings to sell more ads.

13. Isn't THAT the truth.
I was involved in various anti-war movements over the years, and not only did we routinely get UNDER covered by the media (any, local or national) but sometimes MIScovered with intentionally deflated figures of how many people were there.

Whoever made up this term "liberal media" needs to be swatted with an adult salmon.

19. same for gay rights and immigration reform
Liberal protesters are ignored often at the expense of giving coverage to vastly smaller tea party protests going on at the same time.

Edited on Mon Apr-12-10 09:41 PM by devilgrrl
A lot more people were involved with that than the teabaggers.

2. Well you see their rival in entertainews is Fox News and Fox has the Tea Party
in their pocket for ratings, because they ARE the Tea Party's taskmasters. That leaves CNN with a Tea Party news gap, so they figure like all the entertainews they spew for ratings - say it enough times and people will believe it to be true. CNN says it enough, maybe the Tea Party backers will give them some ratings and money.

Never was about news, all about ratings and money.

Bill Moyers had a good segment on Afghanistan last weekend.

16. Perspective: Fox,CNN,AP,ABC,CBS,NBC (Natl Elect Pool) are suppressing '08 Exit Poll Data...
Edited on Tue Apr-13-10 12:27 AM by tiptoe

...frauds, posers, garbage-heads, ignoramuses, lowlifes, billionaire bums, pseudo "Christians": anything but professional American news media.

They are complicit in Election Fraud in this country, on behalf of the "Hijacked GOP" (i.e. the entity that Susan Eisenhower and a known minimal 344000 other "traditional GOP" de-registered from), responsible for war crimes, citizen "disappearances", treason and (my guess) indirectly tied to 9/11 (minimally in degree that none of "investigative reporters" are investigating): http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=6298513&mesg_id=6299447 )

The NEP hires the exit pollster, but the exit pollster has no control on the release of his information -- his contractors do (see interview with the exit pollster in "When will the MSM release the exit poll report?").

Last Exit Pollster Evaluation Report: Jan 2005, 2 months after the 2004 Election.

It's now 17 months after the 2008 election, and the "professional newsmen" (NOT!) at Fox,AP,CNN,ABC,NBC,CBS are still suppressing the data with the truth and political import of the magnitude of Obama's win.

Reality checks:
Extent and effectiveness of "Hijacked GOP" election Fraud in America: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=203x510173

Depiction of what the NEP "news" media's hired exit pollster's "methodology" with "Final Exit Polls" likely (i.e. just speculating) must conform with in order to be considered for hiring and contract renewal:

20. more perspective: Historical ExitPoll/VoteCount Discrepancy, 1988-2004...Susan Eisenhower...
Edited on Tue Apr-13-10 05:25 PM by tiptoe

Extent and effectiveness of hijacked-GOP* election fraud via manipulation of Vote-Counts in America, the full extent of which, in 2008, is being covered up, in effect, by the continued suppression of state exit poll data by the "media" organizations comprising the NEP:

Historical ExitPoll/VoteCount Discrepancy, 1988-2004 (238 elections reveal vote-share margin-shifts in the vote-counts favoring "GOP" 84-to-100% of the time)
Voting Booth to Exit Poll Interview to (secret) Counting of Candidate & Proposition Votes

Hijacked-GOP talking-points and pro-election-fraud legislative posture: "It's NOT the exit polls, morans!"   "It's the VOTE COUNT, stupid!"

*Reflections on Leaving the Party by Susan Eisenhower, Aug 21 2008

Despite 10/29/04 polls showing a 48.5% Approval Rating, Bush vote-count share in 2004 declined from 2000 in only 7 states.

5. I quit CNN and feel so much better. They really are a poor excuse for a "news
network". They flounder and flop about. If they would just be truthful and fact based they would get a nice audience share...."the facts have a liberal bias", you know. Oh, well. Turn 'em off!

6. I called them earlier today due to this......
I had tuned in and the entire 3 minutes that I had them on, they were covering some
tea party protest. I turned off the Television and contacted them to state that
this manufactured movement that CNN was pushing as often as possible was getting
on my nerves. Told them that Tea Party is just another name for McCain Voters who
can't get over losing. Of course CNN knows this, and more of us needs to let them
know that we know it too.
