First they had the MLK Holiday fiasco, which was ultimately resolved though the solution caused me to lose President's day while in grad school. The governor then had some memorable comments (we'll talk about him in a moment):

from wiki: "King doesn't deserve a holiday." This was followed by him telling a group of black community leaders, "You folks don't need another holiday. What you folks need are jobs."

Second they had the Evan Meacham impeachment, which followed a few years of :wtf:

from wiki: An initial irritant for the lawmakers were some nominations to executive offices by Mecham...Among these...was Alberto Rodriguez as superintendent of the Arizona Department of Liquor Licenses and Control, while he was under investigation for murder. Other questionable nominations included the director of the Department of Revenue whose company was in arrears by US$25,000 on employment compensation payments, an appointee for head of prison construction who had served prison time for armed robbery
(believe it or not, that list goes on...)

Third they had Fife Symington, :wtf: to be sure, but more conventional for a politician
(basically 4-6 years of money-related scandals depending upon when you start counting) which ended with his conviction/resignation...I think at some point a star witness was killed in a car accident.

I'll never forget Symington's campaign commercial that ran in Tucson, "If reelected, I'll make Southern Arizona one of my top priorities." :rofl:

Fourth, Tim McVeigh and Terry Nichols hatched their plan in Kingman or something. I do think living in Kingman could make you go batty.

And in the meantime, Arizona Republicans got so goofy that even Barry Goldwater couldn't stand them.

And perhaps the most embarassing moment of all was when Steve Forbes won the Republican primary in 1996.


All I'm saying is that Arizonans have been shaking their heads so long that they are collectively dizzy.

4. Just like Texas, Mississippi, or the south in general....

..it always astounds me that the bashing is all-inclusive. Never does one see the words, "some texans", many texans" some southerners, many southerners", and in a departure, "some Arizonans", "many Arizonans". It's always the holier than thou broad-blanket "Texans", "southerners", "Arizonans", etcetera, etcetera, etcetera. I wouldn't mind seeing a thread that every once in awhile, recognizes the pile of shit in one's own back yard before referring to those of others. Many good people in those states, but they are no different than the other neanderthal knuckle draggers for many so called "progressives". I was born and pretty much raised in Arkansas. I love my state and wouldn't live anywhere else. Why? Mainly because it is not a huge task to surround myself with an environment that is agreeable to my way of life and thinking on many issues. We're not that goddamn rare as the sponges of stereotypes would like to believe. We may be the minority in these areas, but we love our homes, and God bless them, even the wayward we call family and friends, many of whom would give the shirt off their backs for someone in need. heck, when i lived there, we used to say that to each other..."why do the goofballs get to make this state look crazy?".

that's different than saying they are all somehow responsible or all somehow crazy, which they aren't.

...I offer up apologies. Mine to you. Had I read your thread more carefully, I would not have posted what I did. The constant barrage of broad-blanket insults to many of us living in states that are deemed "red/unacceptable, prompted me to act without thinking. I do however, reserve the right to copy and paste my reply to threads that I am positive have been and will be posted that it aptly applies to. Yours is not one of them. Thanks.

Even the RW people I know have spoken out against this law. Our legislator doesn't speak for the majority of Arizonans.
It's sad that we get a black eye from a few nutballs.
