Industrial hemp angle overlooked in Prop. 19 debate
California's biggest economic boon from legalizing marijuana may not come from tourism or tax revenues, but through the creation of a legal hemp industry.

It can be used for food, textiles and housing - what are we waiting for?

1) There is already a legal hemp industry. That's where, you know, hemp comes from
2) Hemp is a different plant from marijuana.
3) It can be used for all that stuff - and the primary reason it isn't currently used is because there are other substances that do all that better than hemp

Please, please, please put down the magical plant hype. It's unneeded. Marijuana should be legal because there's no sane reason for it to be illegal. You don't HAVE to come up with all these superplant arguments for it. They get ridiculous and only serve to distract from the very point you're trying to make.

My mistake on that.

However, once again - this bill is about marijuana use. And it's STILL silly to conflate hemp and marijuana, while making hemp out to be this magnificent miracle plant and using that as justification for legalization. Again, marijuana should be legal because there's no reason for it to be illegal. You don't have to make excuses and false justifications.

2. Hopefully hemp clothing products will come down in price.
Hemp tee-shirts last at least 10 years.
