Please do not lose sight of the fact that the Repukes took over the House
I love KO as much as the next person, but could this be a distraction (look, shiny) to yet again knock us off our mark?

We don't have the machine they do, expect anything......next thing Bonner could turn purple.........

1. President Obama is already showing some encouraging signs
that he's going to get tougher.

He appears firm in his decision not to extend Bush's tax cuts to the top 2%, McConnell's and Boehner's signature campaign promise to their corporate masters, and something they're going to push Pres. Obama and the Dems on.

But what's happening to my beloved K.O. does not distract me from the shenanigans occurring with the Repukes and the Dems. Not one bit.

2. Well, that's going to be pretty hard to ignore, don't you think?
In the meantime, other stories also capture our attention. There will be many stories that will get top billing over the Republican gains in the House of Representatives, but that story will remain in everyone's minds for the next two years. Other stories will come and go, and some will cause many threads to appear on DU. But, the big stories will not be forgotten, I'm very sure.

7. Do not lose sight of the fact that they also took over many state houses and that
this is a redistricting year. How do you think that map will look when they are done slicing and dicing?

I'm so pissed at our side right now. Noone commits political suicide the way the left end of the political spectrum in this nation does. Win the battle and turn around and start killing each other off. I'm so disgusted.

8. I agree and we've been in this position before of a turnover in power so fast.
These Tea Party people scare the shit outta me and they should the majority of the population. Unfortunately, for our side is that we don't seem to show up at the polls to vote as they do in numbers.

I can't see them winning in 2012 but they will if we don't turn out and vote. I work with many who can't stand President Obama but they will vote for him in droves if the opposition puts up anything close to a Tea Party member in 2012.

Even so much as a wink or a nod in the direction of the Tea Party will be enough for them to vote against them from what I've "heard" from them.

9. Yes, we didn't show up. The lesson to be learned from this debacle is that
when you are in power, it is not the time to "teach a lesson" to your side by not showing up, particularly when there is such a big differnce in what the parties do stand for.

10. Yep, but we're famous for sitting out elections in protest or voting third party.
There are only 2 parties that matter in major elections.

If you can't live with the alternative then one should vote for who they view as the less evil ofthe two.

Of course many will get upset at my remark about voting third party but until a third party is a viable choice one is really just throwing their vote to the other side.

*runs*

14. How does a party become "viable" other than building to such a point?
This argument is circular in nature.

The party can bend or it must be broken.

16. So we broke it. Where's the viable alternative for the left, huh?
Meanwhile we literally have millions of people out here who have received a modicum of protection from the left. Got plans to fix this mess?

17. We haven't broken it at all. Once we do a natural vacuum will be created and we'll have our shot
Breaking it is not a preference but it increasingly seems the best of bad choices. The influx of money only strengthens the DLC types and drowns out the grass roots.

The existing system is not sustainable working exclusively in it is building castles out of sand.

You ask what my viable alternative is like you have one but you know you don't.

13. + one million
It doesn't teach any lesson at all and just gets more Republican influence. And since republicans vote, that factor never happens on their side, so it's a punishment/lesson we can only give ourselves.

12. so many posts seem to conclude they can do whatever they want
We need to know a whole lot more about redistricting to jump to the extreme conclusion they will be able to do any old thing they want.

And a couple of states passed initiatives on it.

It's a state by state question. In my state I don't have to worry as Dems have it all and we only have one district as it is.

I'd rather hear from some specific states as to why this is such a disaster.

15. That is a point EVERYONE seems to miss, as did our party leaders
In 2000 ALL Tom DeLay and his cronies cared about was redistricting. Whether we realized it or not, the Pukes had their eye on the prize, the House which yet again gives them the upper hand at changing the landscape and our political future.

Sad our Party doesn't look as far ahead as the Repukes.
