Some Things Don’t Change: Dan Riehl Is Still Stupid
Last night I was having a little Twitter-fight with a conservative about the relative merits of Texas versus Maryland, when serial idiot Dan Riehl decided to stick his nose in. Besides the obligatory insults, Riehl decided to try to be a smarty pants, sending the following message:
@owillis Hey, you’re on a roll, Ollie! “Maryland’s Race to the Top Application: Failure Revealed” http://tinyurl.com/26rfsta
The story Riehl linked to was some nonsense from the user-generated content farm Examiner.com, specifically an article supposedly describing how Maryland had botched their application to the federal “Race To The Top” program:
<snip>
Of course, as those of you with two brain cells to rub together may realize, this stupid article is wrong:
Maryland and the District of Columbia joined eight states as winners of $3.4 billion in coveted education grants, federal officials said Tuesday morning.
Maryland did, in fact pass through the Race To The Top application process with flying colors – it was one of the reasons Martin O’Malley won re-election by double digit in one of the heaviest pro-Republican election years on record. At the same time conservative darling Chris Christie screwed up his state’s application and New Jersey ended up being left behind, while Christie idiotically threw a tantrum and blamed his administration’s mistakes on the Obama administration.
