The fire department saved my son.... and me from total embarrasment

I want to thank the fine people of the Denver Fire Department for their professionalism rescuing my son, who I accidentally locked out, with keys inside, and they quickly responded and managed to unlock the door after 10 minutes. My son, of course, was not hurt, and a bit cold after being in the car for almost 25 minutes, unheated in a 25 degree weather.

Yes, it proves that we still get what we pay our taxes for. The fundies would let their house burn down before calling ANYONE, saying it's Jesus' wish or whatever.

I *NEVER* knew that the Kia Soul locks itself when I close the door, key inside.

Will be extra careful from now on....

At least those that are Tea Partiers. They don't have a problem getting help from the government. They just get upset when someone else gets help from the government.

2. For the record those are the calls we all love

EMTS and fire may talk of the BIG calls, but we really get a good feeling from "stoopid calls" like this. They are good for training, nobody gets hurt, and everybody is smiles.

At least those of us who are already somewhat of vets. The 'oung ones might gripe, the old ones will go... good, nobody REALLY NEEDED our advanced skills.

4. Yeah, it made me appreciate the hard work that the public sector does

It's just amazing. The fire house is just 2 blocks away, but it took them 5 minutes after the call to arrive. Guess the ol' firetruck needed to warm up first :)

This is our "2nd" 911 call this year - the first one was my wife's post-op gallbladder acting up but we wound up paying $80 for the ambulance ride.

5. Last year ...

... we attended the open house for http://www.centralpiercefire.org/default.aspx">Central Pierce Fire and Rescue. Wife lost track of our daughter, and while we were looking for her there was an announcement of a lost little girl at the info booth.

Wife was freaked, but someone remarked to her, "You know, if you're going to lose your kids, in the middle of about a hundred cops and firefighters is a pretty safe place to be."

8. Magnetic key box hidden under the car..

Having one has saved my ass mucho trouble over the years, I've had several cars it was easy to lock the keys in, I've even had my dog lock the car door by jumping on the button when I left the key in once with her in the car..

17. Put her paw on the power lock button and locked all four doors..

The power window and door lock buttons on the drivers's door are on a horizontal plate, I should have realized it could happen because she routinely messes with the power windows when she's riding in my lap in that car and the door lock button is similar and just a bit further forward than the window buttons..

I was just outside the car when it happened, heard the click and knew I was locked out.. The guy I was visiting was standing right there with me and he damn near suffocated he was laughing so hard.

16. Normally we do have a spare set (wife's usually)

but the car is in the shop for repairs - this was a rental from Enterprise - and they ONLY have one set of keys.

And yes, we called them - they said to call 911.

Wonder if I'm going to get charged from Enterprise for that?

To think, I *almost* had the key made yesterday when I was at the hardware store. I had intended to use it as a spare and then toss it when the car's returned.

9. If it makes you feel any better

I did that once, locked myself out of my car with my son inside. Luckily it was right outside the AAA office, and they had the thingy that unlocks the car through the window. He was out in less than 10 minutes.

I felt very embarrassed, though, and never did that again.

I found out when I pulled into the parking lot, stopped the car, put it in 'park', and placed the keys in my hand.

But I was listening to the radio, it remains on for appx 10 minutes.

After a couple minutes of listening to the radio, imagine my surprise when I heard the doors lock, with me still inside. It was weird.

edit - It happened again, but the 2nd time, the keys were in my purse. There was no way I could have accidently locked the doors.
