A Facebook question ---
Here's the deal -- I just got 'friend' requests from my fundie brother and his wife. I'm delighted to keep all lines of communication open, but their heads would explode upon their first viewing of my very liberal wall. My present FB page was set up in order to receive communiques from the local Dem office, so 99% of its content is highly political.

So, does anyone know if I can start an additional FB page that I can use for family only? And how would I go about directing articles, etc., that I want to share on FB?

Thanks for any suggestions!

1. You can block them from receiving your updates
You can also block them from seeing what your friends post on your page.

That's how I handle the folks I don't care to discuss politics with.

Only thing is - check it once in awhile. FB has a weird glitch or something that changes your settings sometimes.

4. Yeah its under the privacy tab
Then you can view your profile through his/her eyes.

But why not let them see? they might learn something.

5. Hubby's family. Don't want to get it started.

There's a good reason we're still married after 35 years :)

Hubby is a good liberal Democrat. But he has a few misinformed relatives. Hard not to be when you grow up in Kansas. LOL

6. Remember though
You're going to have to deal with their status updates and posts from World Net Daily and God knows what else. :puke:

You might want to mute them on your wall. Good luck!

Mainly the ones who post only right wing political crap.

13. They don't do political stuff
They just post family news and pics.

All the more reason I don't want to get it started :)

30. I agree --- show your true colors with pride
They are the ones who friended you. Before long, they'll probably hide your posts, as I suspect half my friends do.

7. I have a question too.
What happens when you un-friend someone? Do they get a notice that you un-friended them?

9. Nope, no automatic message...
I found this out the hard way...

Suddenly I noticed that I wasn't hearing from one friend anymore...

And then I realized that she must have unfriended me, as well as blocked me.

It was pretty tough for a while...

21. You could say that...
But we had been friends for several years, had met in person and always had a good time...

I think I know what happened. After she'd been banned from here, she held my views against me.

I miss her.

Thanks, sweetie...

I appreciate you so much...

31. Are you sure they unfriended you?
Perhaps they disabled their account altogether? A friend of mine did just that. I noticed she was gone on Wednesday. She had shut down her account on other occasions due to other "friends" (or relatives) passing around some of her postings and photos to others who were complete strangers to her--without her permission. That's exactly what happened again this week.

33. Nope, she unfriended me.
I got a private message from another friend that was addressed to her as well as some other folks, and me.

I know she's still there. Another friend talks to her sometimes too...

23. I use that -- after posting that "any Glenn Beck fans should unfriend me now"...

I was curious who would do so, including my own sister. ;)

But what I've seen is that FB has tons of glitches. It deletes or hides or disables profiles at random, then the profiles can reappear days later. I know this has happened because the people it's happened to I know didn't unfriend me; they were panicking about their profiles being disabled.

Some people also take their profile offline for a bit, when they feel they're addicted and not getting much done. ;)

I'd love to be FB friends with more DUers.

:hi:

10. Create a "Group" for folks you want to reduce access for
Then use your Privacy settings to exclude them from your Wall, Photos or other identifying info.

Just make sure that you keep them excluded on things you do using the "Custom" option in the place where you indicate who you want to share things with.

20. So, LET their heads explode.
Why hide who you are and what you believe? If you genuinely believe those people are wrong, then why NOT get in their face? We went to war basically because although the majority did not support it, they feared the confrontation involved with opposing it, and just "went along".

If "they" don't like my views, then they can un-friend me. Hasn't happened yet.

or do what I do and don't give a shit if they don't like the stuff you post. After all, it's YOUR facebook, not theirs.

32. Yep, you can customize who sees what.
Just go into your account settings. You can also customize specific postings. See the little icons associated with the box in which you post your comments.
