The idea to film it was the WH's.

It was brilliant .... gave the GOP the chance to show their hind ends to their respective constituencies "See how I STOOD up to him!" ... and it gave the President a chance to show himself "going after" the GOP like we're always wanting him to.

I think this was a precedent starting day .... it's the same as Kennedy's first televised press briefing .... or the first televised debate between him and Nixon.
