Rep. Michael N. Castle (R-Del.) raised $826,000 for his Senate campaign in the first three months of this year and had $2.3 million in his campaign account as April began, according to the Wilmington News Journal.
Seven months before the election, Castle is much better-funded than Democratic opponent Chris Coons, a county executive in Wilmington. But Coons raised money at a faster clip in his first two months of fundraising after entering the race in early February.
"Our fundraising is pretty steady -- it goes along at about a million dollars a quarter, and I expect that to continue in the next few quarters," Castle told CQ Politics. He raised $1.1 million in the fourth quarter of 2009, a period that included his Senate candidacy announcement in early October.
Coons told CQ Politics that he raised $635,000 in the first quarter, easily exceeding a goal he had set for his campaign.
