Attorney for Military birther has ties to GOP dirty tricksters
Edited on Tue Apr-20-10 01:17 PM by PatGund
Talking Points Memo Muckraker is reporting on the appearance on the G. Gordon Liddy show of LCol. Terry Lakin, the military doctor who is facing court martial over his refusal to obey orders until he's shown Obama's birth certificate.

http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010/04/birther_lt_col_lakin_appears_on_gordon_liddy_show.php

"Today, Lakin appeared on Liddy's show with his attorney, identified as Paul Jensen.

Jensen said that Birther litigation around the country has been dismissed because of lack of standing. He then hinted -- while declining, on the advice of his "good friend" the GOP operative Roger Stone, not to publicly detail his defense plans -- that he would try to use discovery to demand birth documents from Obama."

That would be Paul Rolf Jensen, a friend and former staffer of former Sen. Bob Smith. Jensen has a history of, among other things, anti-gay activity.

http://www.austinchronicle.com/gyrobase/Issue/story?oid=oid%3A170003
http://www.witherspoonsociety.org/2004/jensen.htm

He was also the attorney for Roger Stone in the Elliot Spitzer case.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/03/23/eliot-spitzer-kept-on-bla_n_92946.html

"It is also my client's understanding from the same source that Governor Spitzer did not remove his midcalf-length black socks during the sex act," said the letter, which was signed by Stone's attorney Paul Rolf Jensen. "Perhaps you can use this detail to corroborate Mr. Stone's information."

Stone himself is a GOP ratfucker who was behind the attempts to stop the 2000 recount in Florida, and during the 2008 primaries was involved in the so-called "whitey tape" myth about Michelle Obama.

http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2008-11-20/a-gop-dirty-trickster-has-second-thoughts/

"Stone has had a hand in everything from Nixon's dirty tricks to Eliot Spitzer's resignation to spreading discredited rumors of a Michelle Obama “whitey” tape during the 2008 Democratic primaries. You might call Stone the Forrest Gump of scandal, popping up to play a bit part in the most notorious negative campaigns in recent history."

Jensen and former Sen. Smith are the co-founders of the "American Patriot Foundation" which was dormant until last month when it was woken up to provide a site for Lakin's claims. Lakin's spokeswoman, Margaret Hemenway (daughter in law of birther attorney John Hemenway of "Hollister v 'Soetoro'") is also a former staffer of Bob Smith and has ties as a GOP operative and to anti-gay groups as well.

Oh, and guess who else was on Libby's show along with Lakin, Hemenway, and Jensen?? World Net Daily founder Joseph Farah (who helped with the anti-Clinton "Arkansas Project"), and Swift Boat liar Jerome Corsi.

I'm getting more than a slight whiff of far-right / NeoCon ratfuckery here. I suspect we're looking at an attempt to use the birther wingbats as seed material for a "Arkansas Project" - type smear campaign.

1. Well well well
who is surprise to hear this, certainly not me and there are many more like him
out there.

I think it's time to start tying the GOP to the Teaparty just as we did McCain
and Bush.

I am working on it real hard too.

Just putting out there enough is enough.

3. Yep.....
It's been suspected for a while that there was some ratfuckery going on with the birthers, but this is the most overt example of such to date.

2. He defied and disobeyed a lawful order given by a superior officer.
That is what he will be court-martialed for, and there is no amount of legal manouvering on Earth that will drag the president in on this.

His position is DOA.

Legal order? Yes.

Refused muster? Yes.

GUILTY as charged.

4. Completely agreed
What I find funny is that Lakin is now whining that his promotion to Col. is now on hold.

To which I say GOOD!

6. If I remember my time in JAG
When Lakin failed to report and the Army filed charges, the Army probably placed a document into his file which denies all favorable actions, and promotion is a favorable action.

5. And then what?
So they try their little ploy and they get the birth certificate, what happens when it shows that the President is an American citizen.

If it happens, Lakin is going to be royally fucked.

7. Oh, if that's the case.....
Well, Lakin seems to be using most of the claims from Philip Berg (not surprising, since his spokeswoman, Margaret Hemenway, is the daughter in law of birther lawyer John D. Hemenway, and John D. had Berg write most of "Hollister v 'Soetoro'")

The first ploy is the claim that the State of Hawaii COLB isn't a "proper" birth certificate because it doesn't have a hospital name or doctor's signature. They want what they called the "Long Form Vault Copy".

And if they get that and it says born in Hawaii, then they go with the second ploy. That Obama lost his US citizenship when his mother married Lolo Soetoro and Obama was "adopted" as a result, giving him Indonesian citizenship (the problem here is that US law prohibits loss of citizenship for a US citizen minor due to parents actions or renunciation. And Indonesian law prohibits the granting of citizenship to adopted children over the age of five - and Obama was six when his mother married Lolo Soetoro.)

And if that doesn't work, they'll claim that his father's citizenship means he has "divided loyalties" and can't be a natural born US citizen.

And if THAT doesn't work, then they drag out a translation of de Vattel's "Law of Nations" that's ten years YOUNGER than the Constitution, and claim that de Vattel's definition of "Natural Born CItizen" (as found in that edition but not in the original French or any earlier English translations) mandates that a "Natural Born Citizen" means "both parents are US citizens."

Lakin is still going to be royally fucked, but the birthers are going to use him as a martyr to continue their lawsuits and try to get the holy grail of "discovery", which they think means they can go on a fishing trip a la Ken Starr and demand any evidence they want.

9. He DELIBERATELY missed a troop movement of his unit going to a combat area.
He evidently told them beforehand he would not go, and he did not.
He could be looking at Leavenworth for at least a year, and I don't know about his pension or benefits, but I assume they would be gone if he is convicted.

This man's professional life was completely wasted because someone wanted publicity. I hope he doesn't think he will get off...

10. You're missing the point - he doesn't want to get off

Once he is convicted, the birthers will have their "political prisoner" and they believe this will entitle them to go on a fishing expedition in a civil suit against the president.

15. I understand - I just wonder if he realized how much he was committed to the process -
or if he is just finding out how deep in he really is...

As I recall, you don't have to be very smart to be a Lt.Col.

18. Well Lakin sounds like he swilled the birther flavour-aid
Ironically, according to news reports, his parents are Obama supporters.

11. If ya follow these fellers too close, ya might could catch whatever mental illness they got
I say: keep a healthy distance. Blur your eyes a bit; just keep track of their general whereabouts without paying too close attention. See, there's a few of them down over that ridge somewhere, but there's not very many of them. They feed and grow on anger and stupidity and hatred -- so don't get sucked into their little vortex and don't help them by feeding them

12. The Birther ratfuckers don't have what the Whitewater ratfuckers had.
The Whitewater ratfuckers had a shady deal where a guy was actually breaking laws and where the president had been loosely involved. It was a beautiful ratfuckery setup because even though the Clintons did nothing wrong, there was one fuckhead who had been crooked and it was all close enough to the Clintons to rub off through ratfuckery.

IF all the ratfucks have on Obama are wild assed birther conspiracy theories, no amount of ratfucking will rub off.

13. I think we need a new law...
...every President going forward has to show his or her original birth certificate to each and every citizen of the U.S. Each one of us has every right to see the original document and decide for ourselves whether or not it is valid. We may need to have town halls or larger venues in order to get through all 300 million+ of us but hey, freedom's not free, ya know?

Also, if a person does not believe it is valid then that person does not have to obey any federal law or pay our taxes or... because I don't know about you, but I for one need proof of the government's legitimacy before I decide whether I will obey any laws coming from said government.

What say the rest of you?

(do I really need the sarcasm tag?)

14. A senior officer playing politics on that level is very troubling.
This is a constitutional democracy and his conduct was completely unacceptable. The DoD needs to come down on him with everything the have. This is clearly a lot more than just disobeying an order.

17. I suspect the DoD has already shown some displeasure.....
Since the person in his chain of command who read him his Article 31 rights was Col. Gordon R. Roberts, a military social worker and Brigade Commander for Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

And ALSO the youngest person in the Vietnam War to be awarded a Medal of Honor, and the ONLY MoH holder serving on active duty right now.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gordon_Ray_Roberts

The fact that Lakin was warned and then read his rights by an MoH holder speaks volumes about just how the military looks at LCol. Lakin right now.
