49. Merhaba! That was so long ago. They closed that base not long
after I left. It was only open for 10 years. Satellites made it unnecessary.

I went from there to the NSA, where I slacked off until my discharge.

my dad..Air Force cryptologic linguist in Chinese,Thai,Korean and Vietnamese(spent 1964-1975 in Viet Nam for the most part)

my partner Air Force canine military police(who,incidentally,guarded my dad in Vietnam- served in Viet Nam,Bosnia,and Gulf war 1)

My son,Army 1st Cavalry Division(served three tours in iraq)

My ex- Army Signal corp. Gulf War 1 and Bosnia vet

11. US Army Recruiting Command, Madison Avenue Civilian Corps
Was part of of the creative team at the ad agency which did the "Be All You Can Be" campaign. Rose through the ranks from secretary to copywriter. Started by volunteering to write the tiny back-of-the-newspaper ads the other copywriters considered beneath them. Visited forts Lewis and Benning, but, curiously, never USAREC headquarters at Ft. Sheridan.

at the same time. june of 69 through oct. of 70
If you came to the post office we more than likely spoke to one another. I remember at the time I knew every person on the base all 500 plus of us. Years has dimmed those memories somewhat though.

You had to register with the Selective Service at 18 during that period. They were going to draft me and I went to the Recruiting Office and told them "Here I am, take me" The recruiter was Navy and he looked through his desk file and said "How about the Air Force" and I replied OK. I ended up as a Bomb Navigation Technician for the B47 bomber, stationed at March Field, near Riverside, California. The military was not for me and I was able to get out three months early to go to College.

6 Ships, tour with Special Boat Unit Twenty, year in Korea, 3 with the Seabees, two with a Composite Air unit. Only 2 ships still around and the Composite is gone. SBU20 has had a name change.

I raised my right arm to volunteer as the Berlin Wall was going up and they told me I was too old, too fat, and too slow as the wall was coming down.

Many, many units.

vietnam 1967-1968, 92nd Engineer Battalion

Vietnam 1972-1973, USARV: I came home when Henry the K declared "peace with honor".

Looking back on it, it was all good.
