1. He doesn't sound sane.
Or all that bright, for that matter.

22. Warrior 1, I agree and I posted a similar thread here ---

People were all over the place shouting that Loughner is insane. Unwittingly, they are supporting Sarah Palin's alibi that it was a lone nut and she had nothing to do with it nor did any of the other Republicans who fomented the atmosphere of violence and egged on people like Loughner.

I do NOT think he is insane. He sounds like a typical jaded, banal, poorly educated kid with a snotty smug know it all attitude and very poorly educated.

To me that is much more scary than saying he is insane, Palin's alibi.

We badly need better education in this country. That is not the only cause of Loughner's atrocity but it is part of it.

Glenn Beck would not be a huge success and he would not have a $32 million salary if it were not for the uneducated who follow him.

3. You can be insane and pissed at the same time.
Even severely mentally ill people don't sound insane all the time

If you read Loughners writings over the last 3 years, witness the deteriorating reasoning as he plunged deeper into drug use and lucid dreaming on top of depression over isolation and chronic unemployment, its impossible to call that a sane person. His teachers and classmates saw it. His employers saw it. An internet poster who said he was qualified to recognize these signs saw schizophrenia and begged Jared to get back on his meds before he hurt himself or hurt someone else.

Add to that that the US Military, known for having very low acceptance standards, wouldn't admit him in time of war when they desperately need people.

Just so you know, both of his parents are bipolar. My belief is he inherited it and it was exacerbated by drug use + salvia + depression + unemployment + isolation + rejection + lucid dreaming + fantasy gaming. In the online gaming forum he frequented, he made a very clear post that he was going to bo play empire earth in the streets of tucson. I don't think this guy knew fantasy (lucid dreaming) from reality anymore.

Persistent Psychosis Associated With Salvia Divinorum Use

PETER PRZEKOP, D.O., Ph.D., and TIMOTHY LEE, M.D
Loma Linda, Calif.
To The Editor: Salvia divinorum (salvia) is a sage plant that is easily obtained in the United States. Its active ingredient, Salvinorin A, is a novel and highly selective pure kappa opiate receptor agonist with rapid onset and powerful hallucinogenic properties (1). Salvia has become increasingly popular as a drug of abuse when smoked. No long-term negative outcomes have been reported from the use of salvia. We present a case in which salvia precipitated persistent psychosis.

"Mr. J" was a 21-year-old man with no family or personal psychiatric history or laboratory abnormalities. He was reported to have normal social interactions, behavior, and cognitive skills. He was transferred to our psychiatric unit for acute psychosis and paranoia, which occurred shortly after smoking salvia. In transport, the patient became suspicious and attempted to jump from the vehicle. Upon presentation, he demonstrated echolalia, paranoia, flight of ideas, and psychomotor agitation. The patient remained agitated for the first 2 days of hospitalization. He attempted to barricade himself in his room. Risperidone (3 mg by mouth/three times per day) was administered, and the patient was eventually stabilized. The dosage, however, resulted in the parkisonian features of rigidity, bradykinesia, and masked facies.
Mr. J was transferred to the chemical dependency unit for further treatment. He was stabilized, and treatment with risperidone was slowly tapered. During the taper from risperidone, the patient continued to improve and manifested better insight and logical thought processes. He participated in group therapy and interacted with peers, and the parkinsonian features subsided. One day after risperidone was withdrawn, the patient’s symptoms abruptly returned. He became agitated, paranoid, and aggressive and believed he was able to project and receive thoughts. He returned to the inpatient psychiatry unit where risperidone (3 mg by mouth/twice daily) was reinstated. He was once again stabilized and transferred to the referring psychiatric facility for further treatment. At the 4-month follow-up, the patient exhibited no perceptible improvement.

To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported case of a persistent negative outcome from the use of salvia. We suspect that our patient was genetically predisposed to schizophrenia, and salvia precipitated the clinical manifestations. This may relate to the drug’s ability to influence dopamine levels in the brain and potentiate plastic changes in frontal lobe networks (3).

Previous studies have cited salvia as a potential treatment option for CNS illnesses (2). This is surprising, considering the paucity of research regarding its efficacy. Salvia’s ability to increase dopamine levels in the nucleus accumbens increases its potential for dependence. Consistently, patients at our clinic who have used the drug report that its psychological effects are abrupt and frightening. Clinicians should be aware that salvia use can be associated with psychiatric illness.

obtain help he so obviously needed. Has he tried to get help?
The college asked for a mental evaluation before he would be allowed back. He never came back and as far as I know didn't try to get a mental evaluation.

Edited on Sat Jan-15-11 06:05 PM by blondeatlast
Somewhere, somehow, someone could have gotten a social worker involved.

Even the college could have done that with a simple phone call. I've had to do that for a family member. Of course, even if that happened, Federal and state funding of quality care is a joke.

Even one Wal-Mart refused to sell him ammunition because he was acting so "off." I loathe Wal-Mart, but in this case they were smarter than the Feds and my own state of Arizona.

19. But then a second Walmart sold him what he wanted.
Why is a store like Walmart selling guns and ammo anyhow?

Walmart, the Family Store where your friendly neighborhood killer can buy anything he needs to shoot up the local supermarket.

How much more family friendly can you get than that?

I wonder if America knows how insane it looks to the rest of the civilized world?

Well, he may have had to sneak up and an elk that wandered into town, in order to feed his family. Cuz sometimes Safeway runs out of food.

ugh, stuck on stupid in the Land of the Free. Reagan closed the facilities that care for folks like him. So intake/evaluation programs is pointless now that there's little to no long term care.

because I have a cheap PC. Youtube works for me so I'm sure they have it.

Anyways, I was actually trying to avoid passing judgment but my "he seems bitter" comment refers to other videos and postings. But I don't know him so I'll wait until more facts come forward.

13. Really?
"The war is illegal under the constitution because of the currency."

"The date is wrong. It couldn't possibly be that date. It's mind control."

"This is my genocide school."

"I'm going to be homeless because of this school."

Seriously--you don't think he sounds crazy? None of this thoughts are even semi-rational, he just sort of rambles incoherently--the currency, the war, freedom of speech, genocide, this book is illegal, etc.

And you don't think he sounds crazy?

20. he pronounces some words badly, except they almost make Freudian slips.
As though his newly learned so-called grammar keeps from freely expressing himself and the expression comes out by faux pronouncing words that do represent his feelings his new grammar cannot manage yet.
