Did you know that good old JoePa is in the college football hall of fame?
It's true:

http://www.collegefootball.org/famer_selected.php?id=90141

Lisa Klunder is the Executive Director of the hall, she can be reached at:

574-235-9999 or 800-440-FAME - extension 7716

or email at:

lisa.klunder@collegefootball.org

http://www.collegefootball.org/contact.php

Perhaps he never will be charged with a crime.

Perhaps he may never part with so much as a dime when sued.

Perhaps a douchebag like this does not belong in any hall of fame. I've let them know he should have his ass kicked out for allowing an active pedophile near children.

I think it's a little early to just summarily kick him out. Let all the facts come out.

4. What else needs to come out?
We know for a fact that he reported to his superiors that he knew the guy was an active pedophile. We know for a fact that he knew nothing was being done. We know for a fact that he decided that since he had followed the letter of the law, he legally need do nothing else... And he did not do anything else. So we also know for a fact that he let an active pedophile continue to be around children.

Why does a guy like this deserve to be in any hall of fame?

6. They probably will take him out at some point
This scandal is only days old. Believe me we don't know all the facts, and we certainly don't know all the ramifications.

The Hall of Fame will most likely do the right thing. But demanding they do it while the explosion is still happening is kind of silly. Let their Board of Directors at least get together to discuss it.

9. So which of the facts I listed do you think is in dispute?
All parties agree on them as far as I am aware, including Paterno. With these facts established, should not the board be aware that the public does not want a pedophile enabler in the hall so that they will take action at their next meeting?

Paterno is going to walk away completely clean from this, no criminal charges, his money safe from lawsuits. He even had the balls to want to finish the season and retire... WTF? Is it really best to hope that "The Hall of Fame will most likely do the right thing."? Most likely... That is what we should wait for? If any of the facts were still in dispute, I would agree to wait but they are not. Pedophile enablers do not deserve a nice legacy.

11. What we know here in DU is not what everyone else knows
Edited on Fri Nov-11-11 08:33 PM by lunatica
Your facts are right. You're right. But here we learn facts very quickly because this forum and site are run by DUers who post things and frequented by DUers who want to know things quickly. We're like the OWS that way. They can't attack a DU leader or claim we stand for something specifically because we're very fluid here. I try to remember that when expecting action from other organizations. That's why I say time will tell.

I doubt that most people know what we know at this point. Not unless they're DU lurkers or members.

3. Also, from 2002-08, 46 of his players faced 163 criminal charges; 27 were convicted on 45 counts.

7. The myth of Joe Paterno is being exposed.
Penn State is going to take a major hit from this.

5. Sent...
Dear Ms Klunder,

It has come to my attention that Penn State coach Joe Paterno is a member of the hall of fame. As you no doubt are aware he is facing extremely serious allegations in the Sandusky child rape investigation.

Everyone deserves the right to be presumed innocent in a court of criminal law, in civil cases however what is deciding is but a preponderance of evidence, a considerably less strict criteria.

It is my opinion that you should follow the civil and not the criminal criteria when you decide whether or not coach Paterno should remain as a member of the hall of fame.

It is also my opinion that the preponderance of the evidence shows that coach Paterno has shown astoundingly poor moral character in relation to the matter I referenced above.

Thank you for your attention in this matter.

Best Regards,
Fumesucker

8. And Ty Cobb is in the Baseball Hall of Fame
and OJ Simpson is in the Football Hall of Fame.

Ty Cobb was an abrasive, virulent, racist scumbag; OJ Simpson is (probably) a brutal murderer. But they were both supernaturally gifted athletes. They belong in the halls of fame for their respective sports as much as Paterno belongs in the College Football Hall of Fame--winningest coach in NCAA history, 46-year career, 2 national championships, if he doesn't then who does? His reputation is clearly tarnished, but his accomplishments as a coach still stand despite that.

10. Of course he is in the HoF.
He is college football's winningest coach. Why wouldn't he be?
