Family Struggles to Deal with Toddler's Horrible Death

PHOENIX - The grandfather of a 3-year-old girl is picking out a casket in one of the most brutal cases of child abuse we've seen.

The toddler died in a horrific way, allegedly at the hands of her stepfather.

But Thursday, the unthinkable happened to 3-year-old Dani Mayo at the family's apartment.

Police say while her mother was at work, the girl's stepfather, 20-year-old Corey Daniels, beat her nearly to death. Court paperwork describes his sickening attack on the girl, all because she didn't want to eat a hot dog.

When she was hospitalized, the girl was covered with bruises from head to toe. She had multiple skull fractures and bleeding to the brain.

1. Sanctity of traditional marriage and all.
:sarcasm:

Good luck with your adoption! (no sarcasm)

2. What do you mean by 'people like this can GET a child' ?
It was the step-dad that killed the child, not the mother.

The mother, in this case, is also a victim due to what the man did.

Every WOMAN has a RIGHT to reproduce, it is HER choice to do so or not.

We women have enough of a bad time trying to protect our right to an abortion, we don't need the added burden of having to fight for the 'right to reproduce' too.

4. I'm talking about the step-father...
Just by marriage he gets a daughter that he can commit this unspeakable act to.

3. Did the woman adopt her child?
I don't see that in the article. She married the wrong person, obviously. And everyone should have the right to do that, gay or straight.

5. Sorry if I wasn't clear...
I'm talking about the step-father. Just by marrying her he got a beautiful daughter who won't live to see another birthday.

My apologies if I'm pissy about any of this. Some of us dream of having what he just destroyed.

9. No, I understand why you'd be extra upset about this.
Is gay adoption legal where you live?

10. Yes...
And we're doing the classes and preparing for the home study. Just wondering if we're too old to adopt. (I'm 47, Paul is 50.) Still going to complete the work, though, and see where our journey leads us.

11. Good luck!
Are you willing to take an older child, or do you want a baby?

My father's partner was able to adopt a 5 year old at the age of 50.

16. We're looking for an older child...
I'd still like someone with whom I can have a few 'firsts', though. (Selfish, I understand.)

6. I often find myself thinking the same thing...
Everything that we had to do and endure to be able to adopt our child was nothing compared to the joy of being her parents. I hope you'll soon be parents yourselves, WillParkinson & Paul.

13. Perservere
Know that you and Paul will save a child from neglect. That's how you get through this. All the very best to you both.

15. Good on you!
My wife and I just finalized the adoption of our 4 year old, who has lived with us for about 18 months. He gets added to my two older children, from my first marriage, whom my wife adopted after we were married 2 years.

At 49, I am starting all over again.

18. This quote often comes in handy
You know, Mrs. Buckman, you need a license to buy a dog, to drive a car - hell, you even need a license to catch a fish. But they'll let any butt-reaming asshole be a father.
"Tod", in the movie Parenthood

It's sad when some people have to jump through a million hoops to prove they're worthy (and they still may not be "allowed" to adopt or foster) while others can do as they please--until they're proven horribly unfit parents--by virtue of the fact that they have functioning reproductive organs and the willingness to have unprotected sex with an opposite-genital partner.
