Occupy Wall Street plans NYSE shutdown
"Occupy Wall Street protesters are planning an attempt to shut down the New York Stock Exchange on Thursday, Nov. 17, as part of a series of actions to mark the movement's two-month birthday, according to a Facebook page that went live Friday.

“Join Occupy Wall Street and 99%ers from across the country as we shut down the stock market by throwing a block party the 1% will never forget,” the page states."

1. whoa!

THAT would be a "biggie" :wow:

I would expect the police to be all over it, shoulder to shoulder.

2. "According to a Facebook page that went live Friday"

A few days after they publicly announced the date of a plan to shut down Facebook for a day. :eyes: Something of this magnitude is unlikely to happen if the people involved broadcast the details in advance... Even if they intend to flood the streets with angry citizens (i.e. tear gas) a la Seattle 99, that protest was planned a year in advance. Seems like some optimistic folks might want to study up on direct action, because it takes planning to pull off something of this magnitude... The smart thing to do would be to have everyone in the Occupy on board with it and announce that they needed everyone else to come out that day for an unspecified civil disobedience action.

5. Remember that Wall Street itself is part of this equation
If I were a Wall Street employee I would thing it's OK to miss work on that day. Maybe work from home even. Who wants to be confronted by OWS? It's one thing to write sneering signs from the 8th floor while not showing your face to actually having to face the OWS in person. These people are known for greed, not bravery.

3. Well maybe then Wall Street would REALLY be
occupied. :) I'm all for it if they can pull it off, but it's gonna take a LOT of numbers because, as another poster wrote, the cops will be all over this.
