Dealing with Republican ass-hats and high blood pressure. Is there a link?
I've posted about my situation before.
I'm one of four managers in a operations center for a major communications company in Central Florida.
There is me.
The "stupid" liberal and Democrat.
The other three are hardcore right wing hand-jobs, and "Christians" who worship at the altar of (are you ready) Herman Fucking Cain.

Today, I find myself in the break room with these three BIG brains and there is a TV with CNN mounted on the wall sound off, and they are talking about the 94-1 vote today on the Veterans Jobs Bill.

The lone female in this bunch (and the most Pro-Life Christian) says "And Jim De Mint took a lot of heat for that vote, and I'm proud of him"
Mind you that the other three managers, me included, are all vets of one degree or another.
At this point I let out a audible whine and she adds... "And don't YOU get me started".

Here is what happened next.

I get mad.
That's not good for the blood pressure, I'm already on medication for this common ailment.
Anyway, I'm loaded with about 10 DU lead pipe lock fall-back responses to this idiocy I'm facing, so I'm preparing my response when, I decide to ad-lib.

I stand up and I know for my health, I must exit quickly.

I say "Jim De Mint. JIM DE MINT! If you think he's credible, I can understand why you're slurping all over Herman Cain"
I walk out the door and just as I'm leaving I hear her say "Fuck You" under her breath.

I didn't argue.
I didn't get down in the mud.
I didn't get upset.

I just laughed.
Several times.

Because, the stupid liberal Democrat that thinks Jim De Mint and Herman Cain ain't worth two dead flies, currently has by far the highest performing team in the building.

And that's what counts.
This is work.
And the liberal is kicking ass, and has been since 2009.
So excuse me, but FUCK YOU.

Maybe your team would be performing better if you didn't sit on your fat, poorly dressed ass in your office all day long, listening to Glen Beck and surfing Herman Cain's website.

But, I'm stupid.

120/79 baby.
And oh, I dress better too.

1. Sometimes, laughter is the best medicine and
these idiots are definitely worth ridiculing. Good for you.

2. There's no hope for the willfully ignorant.

They aren't worth worrying about. Don't give them credit for raising your BP.

3. I think Bill Maher is on to something - the Fux News crowd lives in a bubble.

A bubble of which nothing gets through - it is impenetrable, and they are susceptible to absolutely no new ideas - ones that serve their best interests - getting through this bubble. Your managers are definitely helping his case.

4. If it makes you feel better, cons get the same way over discussing politics with liberals
Edited on Sat Nov-12-11 01:29 AM by Populist_Prole
I see it all the time but my father is the absolute worst. He's like ( all tense, tight and all ) "I just can't get through to them....to convince them....." I said that it's they just don't have the same interests as yours, and they feel as strongly as you do ( minus the overbearing nastiness )

He just looked at me and blinked...stunned....really! Like it never occurred to them...for real. I was stunned.

Don't sweat it man. They start out chest-beating like they will bury you, then they get cardiac arrest angry once their first attack is repelled.

It's all good.

5. I don't understand why anyone discusses politics at work.

6. I rarely do, except when deliberately baited. Even then I respond in a non-chalant way
Edited on Sat Nov-12-11 01:58 AM by Populist_Prole
At least I try. Some guys clearly wish to get on a soapbox and start ranting. Right then and there if you can respond in a way that makes you sound like you're not really in direct opposition, but using empirical anecdotes point it out more like you are not quite sure; it tends to make the others listening regard you as more "real" and the instigator as just that: An opinionated zealot or crank. He might get mad, but he knows he's cooked and will put a cork in it, since other than that issue, they're basically OK and don't wish to make an ass of themselves or an enemy. Others do this too ( maybe I got my idea from them? ) and I found myself doing it more or less subconsciously I guess, since aside from the politics, we get along pretty good.

I notice how even those tending toward the right ( The best way I'll describe them is socially conservative 'Reagan Democrat' types ) will hold the loudmouth righties there with a sort of sympathetic contempt...a laughable curiosity.
