Occupy Houston, Occupy Florida and what not all had very helpful cops who "protected and served"

Whereas my state, California, in the "liberal" bay area pretty much sicced the occupiers with dogs, tear gas and water cannons

Irony...

3. I actually thought about that RE: Nashville today
I hadn't thought too much about other southern sites, but in general, you're right. Although, the SWAT team had to go all bad ass on the hippies in Chapel Hill the other day, so it's not consistent throughout the region.

8. Well Nashville IS a blue dot in this red state
Edited on Tue Nov-15-11 10:40 PM by socialist_n_TN
The Republicans HATE it. Memphis they understand because it's "dark", but Nashville is mostly white AND the capital. Yet the Metro council STILL passed an antidiscrimination law for contractors RE: GLBT workers. The state legislature had to overturn it.

And as to Occupy Nashville, it was busted by the State Troopers NOT Metro PD. Under laws pushed by the Republican governor, NOT the Metro council and mayor.

10. All of the major cities in Texas are either blue or turning blue.
Houston is "purple" and remember, we managed to vote in not only once, but twice, the nation's only openly lesbian mayor.

While I recognize that it's easier to just label a whole state as conservative or liberal, in these situations it's always better to look at the individual cities instead.
