Paterno = Icon ----------> WTF?
Edited on Wed Nov-16-11 08:20 AM by PCIntern
I'm really sick and tired of this meme: he and his cronies amassed millions upon millions of dollars for themselves via sweetheart real estate deals, the PSU broadcast network, and more nonsense than you can shake a stick at. They have ruled up there with ruthless abandon, no one has ever challenged anything he's ever done or not done, and as I pointed out in another thread last week, he seconded GHWBush's nomination in 1988. Now normally, I don't care about the politics of these guys, but he was technically an employee of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and like my father, was technically unable to participate in political activities. Except that he did with impunity, and my Dad couldn't even join SANE (some of you may recall that organization). Paterno is famous for donating millions to the PSU campus. Where TF did all that money come from, you may ask. Well, you may, but you had best better not ask anyone up there. You'll get "the look".

So there.

1. Are DUers referring to him as an Icon?
or is this in response to the ubiquitous MSM cooing?

3. That is why he is an icon; MONEY.
Period. That is America today. He generated lots of money, he built pretty new buildings, he made the school famous. Who cares about a few kids who were ass-raped by the athletic department? They have plenty of years of therapy to help deal with it.

GO NITTANY LIONS!

4. I learned very young to never hold someone up as an idol or icon.
If you idolize someone you think is great, they WILL disappoint you. Paterno would be a good example.
